Will I ever sleep again?
RNY on 07/09/12
I am 10 days post-op. Many of these nights (about half) I can't sleep. I am up the entire night until I finally collapse around 7 am. Will this stop? I've tried crushed Ambien and Benadryl. Nothing helps. Anyone experienced this? Will it go away?
Thanks.
Thanks.
ahhhh...you will sleep again.
I promise. Your body is going through some dramatic changes and it takes some time for everything to settle down. No doubt you are spending alot of waking time getting used to your new way of life. I thought in the early days after surgery my mind would never shut off. I was home recuperating so, I did alot of 'cat napping' which really cut into my overnight sleep. I just went with the flow of things and didn't expect things to be the same as before surgery. I have a fabulous support group that I joined immediately and the members have been a wonderful resource of answers and reassurance.
Just give yourself some time to adjust and nature will very likely take its course and soon you will be getting some good quality shut eye again.
Best of Luck on your journey!

First, check any prescription meds you are currently taking for side effects...I discovered my tramadol was causing my insomnia. So I stopped taking it and now I sleep...adding something to help me sleep did not help.
Then relax...thinking about not sleeping makes it worse, :)
