My husband had to work on the day of the informational seminar, so I took my mom with me. My consultation with the surgeon is next week, and I'd like to take my husband, since he doesn't know much information yet and hasn't met the surgeon. My paperwork says this is a 2 hour long appt in which I'll get a physical and also meet the nutritionist! Is it normal to take someone with you for this? No point in taking him if he has to sit in the waiting room the whole time.

How involved does he really want to be?  My hubby was happy reading about the duodenal switch from the resources I provided him, and he left the rest to me up until the time of surgery where he DID come along.  In between, I did share with him what I was learning along the way and what he should be expecting, which he appreciated, of course.

He should be able to attend the appointment with you if you want him to.  I would find a new surgeon if your surgeon says he has to sit in the waiting room the whole time.  I take people to appointments with me often and I've never had a doctor that had a problem with it.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I took my adult daughter to every appointment so she could help me remember things. She was in the room and asking questions

My surgeon required that you bring a mate or companion or family member.  He wanted to make sure you have good support.  I am sure during the physical he doesn't need to be in the room, plus you may have questions that are just between you and your doctor.
