don't get pregnant right after surgery!!

i haven't been around for a very long while.  I had RNY on 8/10/10 and ended up pregnant in February of 2011.  It was the roughest pregnancy of my 6 (3 miscarriages)...  i was only 6 months out from surgery and i was quite sick!  bed rest from about 4 months on and taking procardia (heart meds) to slow the many contractions i was having from about 5 months on.  at 27 weeks pregnant, he thought he was gonna come into this world.. i got shots in my butt with stereoids to help mature his lungs.. i was fortunate he waited till 36 weeks with my water breaking at my local gas station!!!

He is now 9.5 months old and super healthy-- which we didn't think would be the case.

I was barely able to eat for myself let alone 2 of us!  my iron plummeted and i couldn't digest much of anything, not even vitamins.. it was not a pretty picture, however i was blessed!!  i guess he was just meant to be considering my youngest was 14 and i was 38!!... its amazing what happens with weight loss

just be careful on getting pregnant... not only for you but for baby!! 

he was one month early and 7 pounds 1 ounce!! i didn't gain a pound!

I imagine that you were taking precautions and got pregnant anyway?

Congrats on having a healthy baby.  This is a good experience to share for those that ask how soon they could get pregnant post-op.  Your description of`being barely able to eat for yourself let alone 2 of you.  The problem is that baby takes all the nutrients first, you get the leftovers.

I was stupid too.  I got pregnant too soon -- she's nearly six now.

My surgeon stresses the "ease of pregnancy" as an early post op.  Hormones become overly active. Regular birth control pills don't work as well as preop.  My surgeon HIGHLY recommends 2 forms of birth control for the first year or so post op to prevent pregnancy, that can derail your progress from surgery.  I heard this mentioned at several post op meetings 6 years ago, so it was no secret from my surgeon's patients. Yep. There's another forum on which there's a lady who is 9 months along but had her surgery 12 months ago. You do the math. I can't even imagine.
