That's true Patty, I've had three surgeries in the past 5 years and I take gelatin and my hair grew back but I didn't lose a lot so hopefully I won't with my DS surgery. Thanks for the advise and reply. ❤Esther

Hi,

I have lost a lot of hair. About 75%. I know have it cut shorter than I ever had. I am at 6 months out and taking Biotin, iron and eating lots of protien. The doctors office said new hair should start growing in around 9 months out. I sure hope so. I feel like there are bald patches.

There is some hair loss for everyone due to major surgery I believe and with DS if *could* be more because of the malabsorption piece.

Hope this helps. Thanks, Terri

Thanks Terri, when I had the RNY I didn't lose much hair so hopefully my revision to the DS will be the same. I take 3 gelatin capsules daily so I'll double up on them after surgery, also I heard the Q10 vitamins help with hair loss too. Thanks, ❤Esther

Esther,
You already know it is normal to lose some hair after the surgery, and here  is a link to a page the explains it, very well.
That being said, the absolute best advice i can give you is biotin, and flaxseed oil. 1000mg of each a day. I am only 2 months out from surgery, but i started both the day i got home from the hospital, and i have about 3 inches of new hair growth.  I mean growth from my scalp... brand new hair.
Ok, i am not explaining very well, here, let me try again.  I have long hair that has grown to between my shoulderblades. There just isn't a lot of that hair, it is very thin see-through-to-the-scalp hair.. Since i started taking the flaxseed oil and biotin i have been growing new hair  and it is about 3 inches long now, so i kind of look like a fuzzy chick. My mom calls it punk pixie, bless her heart.
But my point is, it is brand-new hair. Thick and curly. Your milage may vary, but it works for me!

I am losing my hair now.  I lost some thickness but what really bothered me was having hair all over the house.  I just cut it short and am loving it.  It does not look thin.  I lost a lot of hair after given birth so I was prepared for this.  Honestly I would go bald if it meant having my DS.

Thank you for responding, I take gelatin capsules and also bought Biotin so I hope I don't lose a lot but I hear it does come back.

I will keep you posted.

Hugs,
Esther

I'm 6 months out and have been losing hair since month 3. I had fairly thick hair before and I would estimate I've lost over 50-60% of it. Hopefully it stops soon. Like others have said, I'll gladly trade the hair for the almost 100 lbs I've lost. The hair should grow back eventually.
