Please tell me the advantage of steel cut oatmeal over regular old fashioned oatmeal. The nutrition facts seem the same. Hubby just brought some home.

Oatmeal is oatmeal. It's just a matter ot texture, which can influence taste.

It's less processed, and the flavor is different.  I love it, but it takes a good half hour to make.

Steel cut oats will cook with a more gelatious taste and thicker consistency than rolled oats.  They will feel more "chewy".

Steel cut oats have more husk on them.  They come from the whole oat.

Rolled oats usually come from cut oats and have been pressed between rollers to produce a thinner texture. Think of rolling dough into pasta, or a sheet.

Quick oats or instant oats have been cut and rolled again to produce something very thin that cooks quickly.

I prefer baking with steel cut oats but cooking with rolled oats.  I never use instant or quick oats.  Those are only fit for trash.

There is a difference in taste, texture, and time to cook.  The biggest nutritional difference:  glycemic index!  You want to eat foods from the low end of the glycemic index, as they do not raise your blood sugar as fast, or as high.  Instead they give you a slow steady source of energy.
