Trying to talk to the surgeon about RNY vs DS is impossible!
Scooby - Dr Lalor and his nurse Deb seem to be great people, and when I went to a support group meeting, Deb stayed way late to answer everyone's questions. I don't know who I talked to on the phone, but it seemed that person was just trying to get me off the phone. Feel a lot better that the nurse called this evening to let me know she's there to help.

I went to Dr. Lalor's seminar with my husband. We are both planning on having WLS. DH is doing RnY most likely in December (he is now done with all his pre-op to-do list) and I am going to my first consult w/ him on Nov 2 to speak to him about the sleeve. I thought he was very clear in the seminar that he does not do the DS very often and will only do it on select patients. From what I took from it, he believes the RnY and Sleeve are great tools to achieve weight loss when you do the work with them, with the least risk involved. If you are set on the DS, I would defiantly look for another surgeon. You defiantly want someone who does them often. Good luck to you!!
You want to see Dr. Donovan Teel at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He and Dr. Maguire do the DS (but I think Dr. Maguire is retiring very soon). Turn to dsfacts.com to learn all you can about the DS and what is required to keep healthy. Dr. Teel prefers DS patients to take charge themselves and not need spoon feeding of information.
