ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME - A SHORTAGE OF BARIUM????

I just got a call from the lab and there's a nationwide shortage of barium so I can't get my upper GI until Mid december which will certainly push my surgery date forward to January!!!! No way....

i'm so going to cry right now

Talk to your surgeon.  Perhaps there is a work around, where the upper GI can be done a few days prior to surgery and your surgery can be done the last week of December.

Don't freak and don't cry.  Stay calm, cool and collected.  Try to be open to solutions and positives.

That said, I'm sorry you are experiencing this delay.

Not sure where you are at but you can try calling other facilities in your network and see if they have it available and do your upper GI somewhere else.

Maybe suggest an EGD if they can not get the barrium in time for your surgery to be scheduled.

called dr. they called lab, waiting for an answer. doesn't help they closed today at noon $#%&^#$$#

they also called the surgeon's office to see if they must have that or is there an alternative. waiting........waiting.......

OK Just heard from the surgeons office - they aren't even going to try and mess around with figuring out how to get the upper gi done - they are submitted for authority for an endoscopy. hopefully i will hear something in the next few days
