Anyone have their gall bladder removed after bariatrics?
I meet with VSG surgeon tomorrow. I'm so miserable I can't eat anything anymore :( No matter how good the meal is, or how bad, no matter what time of the day, the amount I eat or how its cooked - I have extreme gas in my stomach, tons of belching, my food sits in my chest for hours, the acid burns, I can't drink anything after my meals, even after the 45 minute rule. It has to be something wrong. I went to a Gastro for this last year and he said all was fine (did upper scope and colonoscopy). In the past few months, I've put on 20lbs! And now I'm 'dieting' and can't even lose. I'm now up 30lbs gained total and so frustrated with myself.
I've Googled everything and I have every single symptom listed under Gall Bladder disease/attacks as well as the symptoms for Hypothyroidism. But last month, my thyroid was tested and completely normal!
I feel 100% normal if I do nothing but protien shakes and water all day. when I eat, I bloat up and my clothes don't fit. I have to lie down most of the time after meals. I just ate seasoned griled shrimp (salt, pepper, lemon juice, dill, garlic) and roasted cauliflower (salt, pepper, garlic) and I'm miserable!
Two big attack triggers are fat and caffeine. When my DH was having attacks, he eliminated fat and noticed an immediate decrease. He discovered caffeine a little late (doc didn't mention that) and a double espresso sent him to the ER for emergency surgery.
For me, I remain thankful that my surgeon removed my gallbladder and appendix during my DS procedure. It's pretty common to develop gallstones with the dietary changes and rapid loss...so much that many are put on actigall as a precaution.

I'm getting mine out in the new year. I had RNY on June 29th of this year and lost a bunch, then I kept having this pain, on the right-ish, all the way through to my back. It would come and go...especially if I didn't eat at regular intervals, ate tuna or ate pork and after strong coffee sometimes. I don't have acid, or any food sitting.
I'm not eating as good as I should, skipping waaay too many meals because of the pain, and with the pain comes nausea. And then I feel worse because my pouch is hungry! Arg never ending crap-cycle.
Lucky my RNY surgeon is also doing the GB surgery, so I know I'll be in good hands. I even joked and asked him to 'cut along the dotted line'....but yeah they'll need to add a few more scars on the right side. Meh whatever, as long as I feel better, I'm 100% zen with another surgery and recovery. I just hate waking up from the surgery, imho that is the WORST. I tend to get emotional coming down off the stuff lol.
I haven't posted in quite some time. However, when I read you post, I just had to. A little background on me: RNY 2005 and lost 100 lbs within 6 months. I also had some really bad "unknown" stomach/intestinal issues in 2008, which ended up being diagnosed as an ulcer (had an endoscopy and colonoscopy) and didn't find any other problems. In 2009, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I am currently 2 weeks Post-Op of having my gallbladder lapriscopically removed. I had no idea I was having gallbladder issues until I had to go to the ER for really really bad stomach cramping and intense flank pain on my right side of my body, which began under my right rib and radiated all the way around near my kidney area. Well, they gave me Morphine, Ultrasound, and a Cat Scan, and ultimately diagnosed me with having Bililiary Sludge. They did not detect any stones but did refer me to a surgeon. When I met with the surgeon, and I knew this that Bariatric Surgery put you at a greater risk of having problems with your gallbladder..and he explained this to me. I didn't want to have surgery again! But..he told me that once you have this kind of trouble, it is likely to continue to get worse and more frequent. I like you, have put on weight..for me, it has been more than 30 lbs and it is frustrating! I can tell you this though, I have lost 12 pounds since surgery and I am sure I can lose even more once I start exercising again. My Fibromyalgia symptoms has gone away (I am hoping that the problem has been my gallbladder the whole time and this will be a blessing in disguise). I think if you are having symptoms you should really bring it to a doctors attention and seek someone out who will listen to you. I can only tell you my experience with this as everyone is different. I am having a slow recovery right now, but each day is getting better. For me the gallbladder surgery hurts worse than the bypass did. This has forced me to change my eating pattern as well...lowfat/nofat/no sugar. I feel so much better overall and I am convinced that this "sludge" perhaps was and has been poisoning me for years and that's why I have felt so poorly. I really hope you get some relief soon! Like you, my thyroid, vitamin levels, etc.....have been checked on a routine basis and nothing wrong was ever found my bloodwork has always turned out ok.
Take care and hope this helps you!
P.S. let me know how it goes with the doc!
Taking one day at a time.
Thanks for all responses! I had an ultra sound this morning of my ball bladder and all was ok. I'm happy but yet, something is still wrong. Even last night, I was in such discomfort! The ultra sound tech couldn't give me details but kept asking if I had this recent pain or has it been a while. Well, I've dealt with some issues for a while, but these past few months have been bad. I can't eat anything. Good or bad without bloating up and getting gassy and the pressure from it all hurts. She scanned the spleen, gall bladder, kidneys, pancreas, etc. All were ok and she said it was 'negative'. So I now await the official results from my Dr. and then he said he'd probably send me on to a Gastro.
I had lower bowel problems (that go back before VSG) last November and saw a Gastro. They did an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. all were ok, yet I still felt bad! So I can't figure out why they can't find anything.
