I had United Health Care in Ohio and I had to switch to CareSource because my Wight Loss Clinic would only accept CareSource. I have seen a couple of post that United Health Care has stopped paying for Weight Loss Surgeries, but they may be mistaken. The best thing to do is call where you want to have surgery and talk to the person that oversees the insurance for that department. They will better be able to tell you what you need to go threw to get approval for the insurance you have.

I have United Health Care Medicaid NJ but it is usually the same every where.  Once I had gotten everything done and it got submitted it took 2 days.  But they have said it can take 2 weeks.  If you want it to be quick, United Health Care told me to have the doctor's office write URGENT or NEED ASAP on your file when submitting it, they can get it done quickly.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner!!!!  I have been so busy getting ready for the holidays.

Once I had gotten all my pre-op testing and appointments done, the doctor's office sent in all my files to my insurance company for approval.  Once the Insurance got my files it only took 2 days for them to approve my surgery.

That was great! How long did it take u to get to that point? Did u have to do the 6 month diet plan with your doctor....or what all did u do?

I had UHC in PA when I had my rny. I had to have six months of obesity documentation from my pcp, a pcp referral to the surgeon and all testing including psych eval. Everything was covered. Took 3 months and after everything was submitted, got approval in 3 days.

Yes and they went back and saw enough of a history where I had been obese with comorbidities, and had been trying to lose with no success.
