Pain relief/ fever reducer for Gastric Bypass patients

I had a minor surgery on Monday (endometrial ablation).  24 hours later pain and fever started and has got steadily worse.  Doctor prescribed antibiotics which I started today.  I have been taking tylenol plus codeine last three days and my fever is still 103!  It's not helping the pain or fever.

When I had the bypass surgery it helped my pain but not this time because I guess I have a uterine infection.  I hope I don't have a superbug and will start feeling better tomorrow.  I can't take ibuprofen and up to now, I haven't needed it.

Is there anything else I can do to help the pain and fever?  I don't want to go to emergency room but if this keeps up I may have to. I collapsed during the night when I got up or at least I would have if hubby hadn't sprang out of bed to grab me and help me back to bed.  Guess my blood pressure is a bit sensitive too.

Surgery was late that day because they were cleaning from the last op and I remember thinking, "oh I hope they clean it properly so I don't get an infection!

Yeah, I'm taking that at prescription strength with codeine and it isn't helping.

With the kids we did lukewarm baths and lots of fluid.

I usually give abx 24 hours to kick in but I would probably be calling the Dr. who did the ablation if the abx aren't working after the 24 hours.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

Oh, and we only medicated fevers if the kid felt like crap and even I don't medicate fevers if I'm not feeling horrible.

I'm all about treating pain with liberal doses of appropriate medication but fevers don't get me too worried unless I feel like crud.

You spoke of a UT issue. Treatment may take 3-5 days to eliminate the pain.  I had the "expereince" of a UT 5 years ago. I had a recent issue a few mo. earlier with CIPRO to prevent an infection from a severe cut that needed 7 stitches.  I came down with "terminal diarrhea", stopped the Cipro, and took Lomotil to stop the diarrhea. My doc said the Cipro was killing off all bacteria in my lower tract, and I had to take Bactrim for the UT issue. So if you come down with really bad diarrhea in a day or so, it may likely be the antibiotic.  My medication chart with Kaiser is marked "severe diarrhea" as a consequence from CIPRO, to prevent future docs from prescribing it for me. After a fever of 103 it is now down to 100.  Still have lots of pain but over the worst. Thank god for antibiotics . It was so bad it affected my blood pressure and I panicked hubby in the middle of the night flailing around the bedroom in a determined effort to not collapse!  I was bouncing off mirrors and doors. I couldn't control my direction back to my bed. Hubby has fast reflexes to catch me for sure. Good job I lost weight or it wouldn't have been so easy for him.
