diet soda
I'd do some googling if I were you. Recent research has found that diet soda is one of the major contributors to the obesity epidemic. Try adding different things to your water like lemon slices, lime slices, cucumbers, try herbal teas, warm and iced. I'd give the diet soda a total miss if I were you.
Success supposes endeavor. - Jane Austen
I drink Diet Coke, and have since I was 9 months out or so.
It amazes me that folks still blame weight gain on diet soda. Anything that has zero calories can not cause weight gain. It takes approx 3500 calories to add a pound of weight to your body. You can not make zero add up to anything other than zero.
In fact, using that same argument Crystal Light (which is a favorite of many on these boards and also has zero calories) would also have to be recognized as contributing to weight gain. It's not - because like diet soda, it has zero calories.
The only caveat is that some folks justify eating more than they might otherwise consume, using the fact that because their drink consisted of zero calories they have more calories available for eating. It's a flawed assumption - and those who think along these lines are likely the ones that keep insisting that their zero calorie soda or drink is the culprit.
Like so many things post op , drinking diet soda is a personal choice requiring an informed adult decision based on fact, not upon word of mouth rumours or assumptions.
Best of luck to you, whatever your choice.=)
*****and to dispel another fallacy regarding soda: Carbonation does absolutely NOTHING to stretch your pouch. If our pouches were that sensitive we would be in a heap of trouble and our surgeries would have basically been performed for no good reason at all.
But studies have shown it can make you crave other sweet things, which causes the gain. Personally, everyone I know who has gained or never got to goal drinks lots of diet soda. Not saying the reverse is true, but it's enough evidence for me to avoid it.

You're absolutely right Laura - that's what I was trying to say when I mentioned that some folks may eat more because they figure that they can have more food (especially candy and other snack-y type things) since they are drinking diet soda and therefore aren't getting calories in their drink of choice. You said it better!
Another danger for those of us who drink diet soda is not getting enough water. I have to work at not letting my soda intake impact my need for 2 1/2 to 3 liters of water per day. I don't count Diet Coke as fluid - I can see myself getting all kinds of messed up if I did.
Bottom line for me is that it's kind of like carbs. Lots of people go no-carb, some go low-carb, and some don't bother counting.
Everybody has to make their own journey. I think there are even some folks who drink with meals, or don't wait the 30 minutes after eating before drinking. Whatever works for them is right for them, as long as they are strictly following their surgeons orders if they are early out. After a year or so it seems to work best when each of us tweeks our diet to meet our personal choices and needs.=)
I'm just very glad to see someone here that acknowledges that while there may be a correlation, there is no causal relationship between diet soda intake and weight gain.
Even when the soda can says low sodium right on the can, it does not mean NO SODIUM. For some of us any extra salt at all prevents us from loosing. As I abhor bland food I would rather spend my salt allowance on my food than in a diet soda. But yes I enjoy some diet soda, I just avoid it if at all possible.
