Sore Muscles

What do you all do for sore muscles?  Yesterday I had to do my strength training DVD at home because it snowed & the roads were crappy so I didn't go to the gym. Well my dvd had me doing a lot of squat type exercises. Today my thighs are so sore. Even going to sit on the toilet I have to pretty much fall back on the seat. Lol TMI I know. I did go to the gym today because I probably will not get to go tomorrow because we have yet another snow storm. I did get in the hot tub today after working out for about 10 mins to kinda relax the muscles but it's still hurting pretty good. Do you think I should give it a days rest or what?

By the way, now that I've been going to the gym pretty regularly now I hate to miss a day. Missing one day makes me feel like I've missed a week. Kinda weird but that's my mind for ya!

Here's what I do for sore muscles:

  1. Acetaminophen
  2. Stretch (wakeup, before & after exercise, bedtime)
  3. Exercise with warm-up and cool-down

As long as you have not damaged one of your muscles or ligaments (sharp pain vs. sore), exercise is the best medicine.  Warm-up, stretching, and cool-down are as important as exercise technique itself to prevent damage.  It's a good idea to alternate days between strength training and cardio with one day per week of no exercise to allow muscle recovery.

Thanks! I always stretch before & after working out, but I haven't thought or heard of streatching when waking & going to bed. I might have to give that a try too. The pain is not sharp just sore. I plan on elevating my legs & putting ice compresses on them & some tylenol. Thanks for the advice!

Soaking in Epsom salts can be helpful , as well as using a foam roller to massage your muscles.
