I don't know which wls is best for me!!!!
Something I must add, re the statement "Any WLS is just a tool." It is, but it's very important to choose the right tool for the job. Think of it like this---you need to put a screw into some very hard, ancient oak wood. You COULD do this, eventually, with a hammer, but boy! that would be hard, and it probably wouldn't hold very well. It would be easier with a hand-held screwdriver, but it would still be a lot of work, and you might wallow out the hole, making your screw a little loose. Or, you could use a power drill---easy-peasy, fast and tight.
Choosing a surgery is very personal. Please understand with any surgery that you choose you can regain your weight! The surgeries are a "tool" to help you get the weight off but if you do not follow the guidelines and change your eating habits and make a real lifestyle change, you can put the weight back on. At the beginning, "honeymoon stage", everyone pretty much is compliant and works hard but then the further out they get they stop following the so called rules and start eating a lot of carbs, etc and the weight slowly comes back on. These surgeries do not give you license to eat whatever you want for the rest of your life. It does give you more control at the beginning to change your habits but you need to keep those habits up for life.
I personally was going with the band when I first went to my seminar and did not even know about the sleeve. I listened to people in the room, I researched and finally decided on the sleeve. I was not interested in the RNY because I did not want to have my insides rerouted, nor have to deal with the malabsorption problems. I also knew that that sleeve could be changed to a DS if needed later (not sure how easily though).
I am a little over 5 months out and am an emotional eater. I can no longer turn to food to comfort me. I have to find other ways to deal with that stress. On all of the programs there are foods that you are told that you can't eat. The truth of the matter is that there is not food that you "can't" eat but there are foods that you should not eat. Slider foods are another thing that are easy to eat but I should not eat because I will slip back into my old ways if I do.
Watch the boards and look at the complications of each of the surgeries and discuss with your doctor.
Good luck on whatever you decide!
