Hiatal hernia + WLS: how was your recovery?
At this point, I can't really feel my sleeve except for some cramping now and then.
If you had a hernia repair at time time of your surgery, did you have considerable pain as well? How long did it last?

Congratulations on your surgery! My surgeon also repaired a large hiatal hernia (that I didn't know I had!) during my RNY procedure. I was in considerable pain all through my midsection. Everything hurt. It's hard for me to know which pains were related to the hernia repair and which were related to the laparoscopic RNY, because I never had any other surgery to compare it to. I had a morphine drip and a pain pump (can't remember the name of it - Q something?) right after surgery. After 24 hours, they took me off the morphine and put me on prescription-strength Tylenol which helped only minimally. I stopped taking the Tylenol 3 days after I got home from the hospital. But honestly, I had a lot of abdominal pain for about a week to 10 days. It did slowly get better. I was sore and achy for about 3-4 weeks but that also finally went away. I've read from many people on these boards who had minimal pain. So your experience may be different than mine. Good luck in your recovery and hang in there! It will get better. ![]()
On May 16 I had a VGS and hiatel hernia repair. My hernia was quite large according to surgeon. Almost 2 "!! Yikes. I was uncomfortable for a week. The pain for me came from hiccups which were annoying an painful. My pain was in my in the front of my shoulders and was intense. Every movement, ached. It lasted about 6 days - by the time I was 10 days out I felt great and realized that having the hiatel hernia fixed was long overdue. It caused a lot of issues that I didn't atribute to it. For instance the tight feeling between my shoulder blades (back) the sore shoulders...I thought it was because I am big busted. I feel sooooo much better. It was all worth it. hang in there.
