WLS for depression?
Wow you people are rude!! i will say that I have depression and anxiety and having the RNY 4 years ago did help, as it helped with my self esteem, removing one more barrier for my depression. since my self esteem has been growing, I feel empowered to make healthier choices for myself, love myself more and beat myself up less.
Kelly you are no poet, you seem very argumentative. why dont you try a friendlier approach on the boards, and why the helll are you responding to a person seeking wls any way? Seems you know it all, so go pik on someone else bully!!
I also agree and don't understand how negative some ppl are on here. PLAIN and Simple depression IS a comorbidity for most insurances. Now whether or not the depression is related to your obesity is for most likely the psych eval to figure out not me. I am so with Olivia insurance companies don't give us much choice sometimes, but I also agree that if your insurance company says not covered to WLS then you wont get it no matter how many comorbidities you have.
I would first appeal the denial before going the depression route (I don't think you'll get approved either if there is an actual exclusion). However, I'm not sure how this constitutes insurance fraud since my doctor also listed depression as one of my comorbidities, so not sure how OP needs to be bashed over her inquiry. Depression is a legitimate comorbidity (not sure if it would stand alone as a single comorbidity but it doesn't need to since like someone else asked, don't you have something else you could use with such a high BMI like sleep apnea or HBP or high cholesterol? Good luck to you.
I to had a high BMI 49. I had Rouex-y Oct. 4 2010 lost 115lbs. regained 10lbs but on track again! I still feel same during periods though that's normal ; ) I stuggled w eating to much of the wrong things then too! I think I have it under control now but WLS is a lifetime Journey...I call mine "Butterful Journey"...I too have depression+ Dx's YES it should work & you can pass psych evaluations too! Mental Illness doesn't go away it just improves & we learn to deal better...Especially IF I take time for ME by exercising even walking...I get mad at my self when I can't find time for ME!
Goodluck!
