Need some advice on acid problem

I am several years out and have not had any serious issues until now. My pouch is killing me! It feels like it's full of acid. I have this gnawing hollow feeling in there. I can wake up on an empty stomach and hear gurggling burping noises. I have gained about 30 lbs back and I'm guessing that is NOT helping the issue.

It doesn't matter what I eat, it's still there. I posted over on the RNY site but was hoping that maybe someone has had similar issues. I am going in for an appt this saturday but the doc I'm working with (military pcp) IS Not knowledgeable about bariatric patients.

Someone suggested ulcer, can we get those in our pouches? I am one big belch fest! The best way to describe it I guess would be a cross between morning sickness (that overall nauseous feeling) and indigestion(burping/gas/bloating). It's miserable!! I read a post about hiatal hernia that someone was talking about and her symptoms seemed very close to mine..but I just don't know. I do know this feeling is awful!! I feel like someone is in there scratching to get out:(

Yes, you can definitely get an ulcer in your pouch! Any chance you've been taking NSAIDs? (Pretty much all the OTC pain relivers/anti-inflammatories other than Tylenol.) You can also get ulcers in your remnant stomach, but I'm not certain how they test for those since it can't be 'scoped.

And yes, it could be a hiatal hernia. My SIL had one, had it repaired when she had her RNY, and now it's back.

If you are not taking an acid reducer, then try them. My experience has been that Tums are not very effective. There are various reasons for the acid problem, including a hiatal hernia. An upper GI and/or an endoscopy would give more information.
