Is it too late to switch surgeons?

Has anyone here switched surgeons after u got your package together, but before pre -approval? I was told two weeks ago that my package was being submitted for eligibility to my insurance. When I called my insurance, they never received it! I immediately called my surgeon and the staff person in charge of submission no longer works there. The replacement informs me that she will not be able to call until tomorrow because she is overloaded! I want to get a copy of my records and take them to another doctor . If I hadn't called myself exactly when would they figured it out ?

I'm sure you're very anxious to move ahead -- but the doctor's office has a replacement in-place -- I'm sure she'll have your package submitted within a week, and I'd give her that grace period.  If you've been happy with your doctor until now, I'd stick with him.  Changing doctors would probably cause more of a delay in the long run.  Follow-up with your doctor next week and your package probably will be submitted by then - and remember the holiday may cause a bit of a delay too.  Also, if you have to get a copy of your records to give to another doctor, that would probably take just as long to process as your submission package.  Things never move as quickly as we'd like them to do. Patience is a good quality!!

On my end, the Weight Center is short one Nut so my appointment for a nutritionist consult isn't until the end of March.  But they're working hard to hire a replacement and then my appointment will get moved up -- in the meantime I can't start my four-week group therapy sessions until a see a nutritionist -- but I'm not going to change doctors because of the delay because this Weight Center is the best around here.

I switched TWICE...once after my surgery was approved but the insurance company did not want me to go out of state so they didn't approve my surgeon.

YOU can switch or even cancel until they have put you under on the OR table!

I switched AFTER I was approved. I had gone through the whole process and as I got closer, I started to not get the "warm and fuzzies" anymore. Just little things happened that made me uncomfortable and not sure I was where I needed to be. So I switched and was approved with my new Dr in a week. Didn't have any issue with the insurance. I had to go through a few things over, like the nutrition class, but that was only because the new Dr wanted to make sure I knew what they expected of me and if I had any questions regarding food, etc.

Good Luck with the process!!!!!

It's not too late until they knock you out for surgery.

A big part of all of this is confidence in your surgical team (that includes their office people too).  You're having your innards altered -- this is serious business.  If you're not confident in the people you're working with, SWITCH!  And don't look back!
