Surgery is the easy way out!
You are all over the place in this reply. You acknowledge that *I* never called you whiny or insecure - *someone* else did in a PM to you? But your post in the VSG forum didn't mention this mysterious person, only those who had shocked you with their replies on the Main Board. Not mentioning me by name is passive aggressive not a plus! If you have something to say about me (because it certainly wasn't to me) then you really should come right out and say it and not leave it for interpretation by other people.
I am well aware you are a man, you have a picture and the name Michael - even *I* could work that one out! Put on your big girl knickers is an English phrase (I was born in England) and it just means don't get so offended by what people reply to you here - it wasn't an attack on your manhood LOLOL! You said you were shocked by our posts on this Board - and so I gave you friendly advice. I wasn't referring to your gender or genitalia!! I'm sad that you used this misunderstanding to call me snarky and accuse me of attacking you. I just don't get it!
I was more than happy with our interraction on this board - you chose to take it elsewhere and encourage other people to make personal attacks on myself and Lora.
Saying that you'll move on now? I think you can consider it mission accomplished, Michael - I hope you have a wonderful day!

You might want to look up the actual definition of an ad hominem attack. There was no attack or calling of names in anything anyone posted.
If you are thinking that my comment about the people you know was such an "attack"... well, see previous dictionary suggestion. My comments about the people you know versus the people i know, BTW, was not intended to be snarky. It was simply a suggestion since no one I know thought it was the easy way compared to (apparently) enough people you know who think you did.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
This is a brilliant article! I loved it. Very well-written and so true. You discuss many aspects of my own journey I had forgotten about. I have encountered people who think that gastric surgery is the easy way out too. It definitely was a very long process for me too, since I started with the lap band, had it removed three years later and then had revision surgery for the gastric sleeve. BEST thing I have ever done and it was worth the struggle and the hassles (with my insurance company) to get to where I am now! After being overweight for decades, it is still amazing to me that I am no longer overweight! Thank you for a terrific essay!
Thanks for your postings. You are right when you say that some people see surgical treatment of obesity as the easy way out.
I lost & gained back more weight over the years before surgery. I am 2 1/2 years post gastric sleeve & have lost about 130 pounds. The last 10 have come off much easier than the rest since I am much more active. It was hard to move around with the excess weight & bad knees. Too.
surgery was not an easy decision, I had the support of my husband & family. My post op course was relatively easy but for a hiatal hernia that developed post surgery, & had to be repaired.
I have a greater awareness of what I eat & how I eat. This is necessary to not have problems after a meal.
i wish anyone who is considering surgery good luck , take advantage of this forum, to assist you.
Yayy, thanks for reposting! And right after I linked it from the RNY forum, too, you poopyhead.
For those who miss the obvious, this is HUMOR. Michael is using hyperbole (not too terribly much!) to make a point.

Actually, I think the hyperbole is SO great that it sounds more like whining than anything resembling humor... but that is just my "reading" of it. It is like creating 22 steps to explain how hard it is to tie a shoe!

Although I take your point, you SERIOUSLY oversimplified the without-surgery "steps" and GREATLY exaggerated the surgery steps and how "difficult" it is Getting surgery really is not that time consuming or onerous for the vast majority of us, nor are all of the individual items that you identify post-op. if I were making that list based on MY experience, it would be less than 25% of yours!
In terms of actual weight loss, surgery IS an easier way to lose a large amount of weight. It is. There is no disputing that no matter how much early post-ops may whine about how hard it is. Losing it IS easy. Maintaining it, just as it is for folks who have not had surgery, is much harder.
i think the argument is not "easy" weight loss (and maintenance) with surgery versus "hard" without. I think the argument is "possible" with surgery and "impossible" without!

LOL Love it!
I'd like to add one little thing, if that's okay.
~The first time you try to eat scrambled eggs at a restaurant, because you know there can't be anything in those that you're not suppose to have. Before you get whole the egg down you turn a lovely shade of green and it's coming up again in the restaurant restroom. It's not embarrassing at all.
Absolutely, I totally agree. That moment when you realize you have just exceeded capacity and you've about 10 seconds before eruption is a special moment we'll all cherish forever. I know mine was awesome!
