Pannectimy done and question about gurdle/binder

Hi, had the panneclectimy done last Tuesday, came home Thursday with 2 drains and this binder thing. Is the binder for comfort or does it help in the healing process? How tight should it be? Thanks so much.

It's mainly for comfort. It should be snug.
