Pre-Op Liquids, liver shrinkage, 12 days or 7 days.
I just bought the Hot and Sour the other day! I figured if it was good, I could give up on trying to learn how to make it from scratch.
I lived on hot and sour soup immediately after my DS. It was the only thing that really appealed to me and I just strained the solids out. I made the mistake of pureeing home-made beef and veggie soup, and that was disgusting. VERY disgusting.
HAHA! yes! I'm such a terrible cook, I don't know much more that salt pepper and some chile lol. So this is gonna be perfect! Along with some pho! I'm doing a trial run of the pre op diet and it's so doable! I never knew how tasty a protein shake can be! Instead of drinking the pre-made ones (those I will be drinking on my way out of the door when I don't have time to prepare anything), I will be using the blender to do my shakes, and they taste so fresh and I blend in some ice so that its like a smoothie, so good! You have no idea HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS SURGERY! well...i guess you do have an idea as I'm sure you went through the same emotions haha
Sadly, you may find the protein shakes less tasty after surgery. I see a lot of people saying the found one they really liked before surgery, and afterwards it gagged them. I would hate to have to depend on them for my protein. (I'd much rather have bacon. *grin*)
I'm actually a pretty good cook, or so my friends and family say. You'll find this whole process easier if you'll learn to cook. Already prepared food comes in two kinds---good, or healthy. If you cook it yourself, it can be both good and good for you.
When I was scheduled for an RNY, I was NOT excited. I dreaded it terribly, but I thought my only other option was dying young, so---I was going to do it. I didn't get excited until I learned about the DS. My first consult with the DS surgeon was on October 30th, and when his scheduler asked me if I minded having surgery before the holidays, I told her I was willing to have it on Christmas Day if that was the first thing he had open! I wound up having it on the 11th of December, and I was two weeks post-op on Christmas Day, ready to start 'soft' foods. My mom made me some cornbread dressing, and I still think that was the best thing I've ever tasted.
hmmm...I'm going to think positively the whole way through. I have read some people hate the shakes, and some people love them. My main focus right now however, is to pass the pre op stage and finally get pouched lol. After I wake up and see that I have gone through the gastric bypass, then I can worry about my tastes post op. Congrats on having your DS! for me as well, I want to live a happy long life...I'm 28 years old and a BMI of 40 so having insurance that covers the surgery, being approved, and scheduled for surgery has been such a blessing.
I so wish I could have had my DS at 28! Unfortunately, they didn't invent it until I was 30. (*grin*) And honestly, at 28 I still thought I was bullet-proof and didn't even consider WLS. Looking back, I can see that if I had had my DS back then, my life would have been very, very different. Because of the way it changes gut chemistry, it's 'cured' a lot of things that weren't weight-related too.
im allowed optifast: 3 shakes, 2 bars per day plus the jellos, broths, sf popsicles. i ran out of my opti bars since i do 2 per day but found GNC Lean Bars as my alternative, and it was approved as a substitute by my nutritionist. it helps to have them as a much needed "crunch". I am on my last week :) its been rough, but worth it, i lost 11lbs just last week!! i love the swansons broths, but Chicken Soup for the Soul (yes the books) has a broth brand as well i found them at Giant Eagle. Good Luck!
i usually have a protein shake with bar for both breakfast and dinner. shake somtime in the middle for lunch. i find that to feel full faster i will litterally chug 2 16oz bottles of water. According to my nutrtionist there is no limit on the other stuff (popsicles, jellos, broths) as long as they are sugar free/fat free. i tend to keep water bottles close so when i start feeling hungry i drink that. PoweradeZero has been a life saver when i started to feel fatigued.i have to do my liquid diet 2 weeks (this is my second week) Another suggestion no matter how hungry you are and how much you love the taste of the broth sip them slowly!!! Eventually your body realizes how much liquids your drinking and can try rejecting them. i did this by "chugging" i would just gag, it wasnt staying down or in anymore. so i had to readjust my habits for this week
