The Bread Option!
Honestly I think it's ridiculous to "NEVER eat something again" after surgery. Unless, you find that it's what YOU need to do. I'm sooooo sick of people "PREACHING" on these forums about how "YOU AREN'T SERIOUS ABOUT SURGERY UNLESS YOU GIVE UP THIS, THIS AND THAT FOREVER!!!!"
Yes, I think it's smart that we seriously limit any white carbs and other junk because they obviously aren't good for you- they should definitely not be a daily consumed item. HOWEVER, I will totally have bread every once in a while- be it once a week or once a month and I don't consider this cheating.
I will say that currently at one month post op- I find that bread does not sit well and takes up too much valuable real-estate when it comes to tummy space and calories so after trying it once I will not eat again for a while... my desire to eat bread has definitely diminished after surgery.
No WLS program is going to tell you that bread is a good idea or that it gives you beneficial nutrition enough to include it in your daily diet. I go in and out of trends with bread (also nearly 9 yrs out), so no, it's not eliminated, however it's a slippery slope, for once I start enjoying it, it gets out of hand with cravings. I've detoxed off of bread and starches a few times.

It's probably worth noting, also, that wheat is now genetically modified--and in some form or fashion is contributing to digestive disorders and to obesity. I bake with almond flour which makes a dense quick bread. It's higher in protein AND calories, but a little goes a long way--and I don't feel like I'm deprived of my favorite food: bread :).
