I know some of you don't tell people what you are about to do or thinking about doing. I chose to tell my closest friends and some family members. Out of 8 people 5 of them said what for, you don't look like you need it(I carry my weight well),are you sure this is right for you and this is the best one after explaining some of the things I need to do before surgery they said is it really worth it. People must think I'm stupid if it wasn't worth it I wouldn't be doing it. I have a BMI of 43.1 and have 4 comorbidities all borderline but still have them. I'm very excited about this and want this. But I have to wonder other than this site and the people I've met here what kind of support am I going to get with people I'm close to. My husband is also one of them but he said what ever I want he will be there for me.

I was a BMI of 41  and barely made it, my heart issues made me eligible.. I have never had any family support or friends support. Only support was from OH..still don't have any at 7+ years P O. My boyfriend of 4 years now still don't understand my wls limitations I have with food, dosen't understand why I eat all day long. he eats only every 6 hours.. well it is what it is. I never hid anything, what if something went wrong and your family did not know anything about your wls to be able to tell the doctors in case you were to go unconscious for whatever reason..  Take care Wendy

I think most "support" is highly over-rated. No one can do this FOR you, so all they really need to do is get out of your way and let you get on with it. (*grin*)

This is your decision, about your health, and you're the one who much do the work. Having someone telling you 24/7 "Oh, I support you!" won't make it one bit easier. Those who question your decision to take charge of your health---just tell them that your doctor agrees with what you're doing, thanks for their concern, but you don't need any negativity.

You might be surprised at how much that clears things up for them.
