The foamies feel awful!! I've had them twice. Blech!

I've found for my pouch (hah) to alleviate the feeling I have to drink something to push the food through or it will continue to stick there. A gross lesson, but now I make sure my food has some moisture or is slippery so it won't get stuck.

Interesting. Next time it tries I imagine I could try forcing thru with some liquid, even though thats the last thing I'd want to do in my mind lol

Hi-

Sorry about the "Foamies"...I think this could probably happen to anyone who has had stomach surgery and is usually caused by either

1) Something getting "stuck"

2) Something irritating your new pouch/stomach/Stoma

3) To much to fast.

Pills can be notorious for getting stuck/irritating new surgical stomachs/pouches. Especially if you take to much at once with not enough water or too "big".

Even though something is on your "Your Allowed to Eat This List"...Doesn't mean your body wants to listen. Oh, no... Scrambled eggs too me a good 7-9 months before my pouch would allow me to eat. Soft boiled eggs seemed to work and over easy, IF I took some of the "white " away.  So, I experimented with other things and found what worked.

3) One time, I just reverted to my old self (accidentally) and gulped too much way to fast! Did 4 vitamin supplement pills and then 2 prescription pills (Tiny) and ate breakfast about an 20 minutes later...Huge mistake! ;)  Had to learn to space things out.

Lastly, it could be sometimes a coincidence (bad egg, rotten food, a "bug", mild food poisoning) symptoms are the same...Stomach/Pouch wants it gone as fast as possible.

If you have constant "Foamies" a lot, you definitely want to contact your Doc, so you don't dehydrate and because you may be getting an Ulcer, to much acid or have a narrowing stoma or stomach (for VSG folks).  The other advice about room temp to slightly warm tea or broth is great..Often that re-hydrates you, soothes tummy and help a pill blockage pass (If that is what you have) and yes my friend, it sucks to have a bad tummy/pouch/ whatever-you-wnt to call it, after surgery!  I think many of us have been there with the Foamies thinking "We're gonna die!"

Hope you are feeling better.

Warmly,

Jackie (The Mellow Hag)
