But to answer your question -- yes, RNY CAN be reversed. It's a tricky surgery, may not be 100% perfect due to atrophy of disuse, but it can be taken down and reversed.
Not that it's the case here, but yes, it can be done.

Topic: RE: Numbness & Dizziness
There are a number of vitamins that can cause this -- copper being one that isn't checked often as well. Do you have your lab results? If not, call your doc and get a copy of your own results.
The reason why I ask if you had a full panel is because a FULL panel really is quite comprehensive -- mine takes 15 tubes. While that's more than most, it's more than 1 or 2 tubes. But that's the only way to know where you stand. And if don't have your results, I can't tell if that's your problem. It very well could be.
Here's even a paper that lists neurological problems after bariatric surgery ---> here.
I'd print it out and give it to your doc. If it's not a pinched nerve, or a skeletal thing, then it leaves bloodwork. This paper can maybe give your doc an idea what to test.

When was a FULL and comprehensive blood panel drawn?

I don't use it right now because I haven't been at the gym. Seems mockingly. It stares at me sitting on my desk, mocking me to get off my ass. But right now I can't get back to the gym regularly, so there it sits.
No, I'm not ready to sell it. Not yet. Maybe later. Not right now, though.

Low blood sugar and low blood pressure can happen post RNY.
Do you have a blood sugar monitor at home? Does it happen after you eat a certain thing? Does it happen when you don't eat after a certain time? Does it happen when you've been working out? Does it happen at the same time each time?

Hey.
I see Billy Munn off 97 between Rocky Mount and Wilson. Admittedly he's new to that practice, but he's not new. He's a PA-C.
I took my list of labs in for my yearly check -- which is quite extensive -- and he ordered it all without question. I'd say he's pretty open to it. Maybe worth a shot?
Lemme know if you're interested in their number.

Um. You jumped me defending whatever this company is. Don't turn this around. If you hadn't decided that you needed to jump me, this wouldn't have turned into anything other than me stating my skepticism -- which hasn't changed, btw, and you jumping up and down stating how you know all about how companies produce things and THIS is a good company but whatsit over there isn't.
I said that I am skeptical of ALL liquids. You're the one hanging your hat on this particular one. Period. I never said I wasn't the only one who did research on this -- and I never will claim that. I think it's great that people DO research what goes in their mouths and their bodies. But to claim THIS one is fine, but another isn't without any facts to back it up seems a bit flimsy at best. What exactly makes THIS one fine and that other one crap? Did you pay to have them tested? Did someone else? Is there some proof to this? That's the sorta thing that makes a difference rather than "I know that this is good and the other isn't."
All I said, before you decided to jump my **** was that I was skeptical about this method of supplementation. That some of the liquids were known to have done this. And then you decided to come in guns blazing and tell me how wrong I was without giving me proof why or how. All I have is that you tell me that I'm wrong. Well, great. Thanks for that. You could also tell me the sky is purple.. should I believe that, too?
I didn't say that you don't do research on this stuff -- I said I was skeptical. Give me something that defines your arguement rather than go off on me and I'm with you. Give me something for my LOGIC to see. Doing anything less simply deflects from the original arguement and makes you look silly.

Hey - a bunch of PROFESSIONALS were bilked by this scam. People who do this day in and day out and work with these supplements for a living and sell them and live and die by their reputations and were dreadfully embarrassed by the fact that they were selling products that decided to change their products midstream (ie Upcal-D) -- and some companies have never been honest.
I'm not as smart as Michelle at Vitalady is. I never will claim to be and if SHE was bilked by some of these companies, then I'm going to claim skepticism until I know unequivicably that something is not one of those companies.
So I guess I wonder -- why does it chafe you so very much that I'm skeptical about this particular company? Especially given the dire consequences of too little calcium or D? If you're right -- SUPER. Cause then hey, this company is doing a great job, hoo-ray for them and all that. But if you are wrong and people are expecting 600mgs of calcium, taking 3 doses for 1800 but are only getting 432mg of calcium from it, then ouch -- that hurts.
So really, why go after MY skepticism? I'm skeptical about quite a bit -- that's WHY I did the experiment in my blog. Don't like it? That's fine, that's your opinion. But I have mine and I'm allowed to voice it.

I'm still skeptical.
I've seen how much volume is in a magnesium citrate capsule -- as I take magnesium citrate capsules. And I'm fairly conversant with calcium citrate as well. Add in flavoring?
So I'll keep my skepticism for now.

Topic: RE: 1200mg Calcium Citrate w/Vitamin D...
Be aware that some of the liquids, and I really am suspect of that liquid that is shown on this thread, use a questionable labeling practice.
See, the calcium citrate molecule is actually quite large. Only 24% or so of that molecule itself is actually calcium. Some companies, however, use the entire molecule as the amount for the dose.
So some companies will say 1200mg of calcium in x dose when in reality it is really only 288mg elemental calcium. Not a whole lot per dose, and fairly misleading.

And that's only if it's elemental -- there's a very good chance it's 1200mg of calcium citrate -- not 1200mg of elemental calcium.
I'm guessing it's one of the misleading labels that's so very common in the liquid supplements.

Topic: RE: Arm and Leg weakness and pain
Well, copper and E can have neurological weakness as well. Iron overload can cause similar symptoms as well, but admittedly is less common.
So you only have B numbers? B12 is fine, yes. Did they test for plasma pyridoxal phosphate for B6? If so, then yes, 6 is low as under 10 is considered deficient (although this would be explained on your lab sheet). How did they test for B1? There's several ways -- Erythrocyte Transketolase Activation Assay? Serum, blood?
Yeah, it could be a vitamin issue. Plus, there are other vitamins that could be it -- not just the B's. Did they test anything other than the B's?
I guess the question is this -- if you're still having the problem, what does your doc say?

Have they retested your b1 recently? How low is low? Why didn't they give you a shot?

Wow. This is the worst diet plan I think I've seen for a post-op RNYer..
But then again, I'm kinda a DSer in disguise I think.
You need to get him to a dietician who knows RNY. This is not going to cut it for him -- period.

Topic: RE: How much of Vitamins and Protein to you need to take after 1 year
There are some vitamins that must be replenished daily.
There are some vitamins that have a storeage for a few years.
There are some vitamins that have a storage of up to 5 years.
After you deplete your storage, your levels will tank.
If you do not take your vitamins, or do not take good vitamins, your stores will start to deplete themselves.
When these stores deplete themselves, then your levels will tank. At that point, it is very hard to get out of what I call (because trust me, I've lived it) "deficiency hell."
It's much easier to prevent a deficiency than to treat it.
Vitamins need to be taken daily. Protein needs to be taken in daily (how, I leave up to you). These are not optional if you wish to remain in good health.
When you say you feel horrible, are you saying that you feel horrible physically -- "my body feels horrible" or are you saying you feel horrible mentally "I feel horrible because I don't do the things I should do for my health"?
I only ask because if it's the first, then you need to go in immediately and get a full blood panel and find out if you are running into any deficiencies. If it's the second, then you can rectify the situation by getting into a proper routine and taking charge of your health.
If you need any help, we're here.

Topic: RE: Best Chewable Multi??
Honestly, I'd have to see the stats.
Packs with more than one vitamin typically have things like calcium and such in them. They may not be enough for us -- or the right type. For example, the RDA for calcium is 1000mg, and the cheapest and easiest way is calcium carbonate -- which of course wouldn't work for us. Or if they have B12, not likely to be sublingual.
So I'd have to say it would depend on the particular pack. If you got me stats, I could give you a better opinion.

It's really the same one way or the other, isn't it?
You're either looking at supplementing K or supplementing selenium. K can be trickier given that it's a fat-soluble, but it's readily found in green leafies -- and if you put some fat with them (ie butter) then you're going to absorb that K better. Selenium is found in nuts and will absorb well from them.
So it's really 6 of one and half dozen of another as my mother would say.
Either way, watch your labs.

Not entirely true.
Ionic iron is only "cancelled" out by 300mg or more of calcium -- that's why most multis have 300mg or less of calcium.
Heme iron has a higher tolerance -- 600mg.

Ha ha ha. (Sorry, migraine, that's as much of a laugh as you're gonna get today. I'm heavily medicated. I should be horizontal.)
Vitamin K is blood clotting. If you start noticing bruising, or if you get cut and have issues with clotting, then get your butt in and ask for a PT, PTT, and K draw. If you're really worried, ask also for a clotting time series -- but that's a PITA (they cut you and you sit still while they time you to see how long it takes to clot). It's fat-soluble, so we have issues absorbing it -- we have to have a certain amount of fat to absorb it properly unless it's a dry-formulation -- even in food forms. It's abosorbed in the duodenum, ileum, and jejunum -- so we have a partial decreased absorption due to the bypass of the duodenum and ileum.
Since you're taking the silvers, I'd make sure that K is on your list of labs. If your doc doesn't order it, get your PCP to order it. Keep an eye on it -- but I wouldn't supplement unless you are low. It's not one to play around with.
