Topic: RE: Vertical Sleeve or Lap-Band regrets
If you qualify for WLS, you qualify for the DS. I see you have a BMI of 36---do you have any co-morbidities? Most insurance companies require a BMI of 40 or greater, or 35 or greater with comorbidities. Price-wise, yes, I'm sure it's more expensive than LapBand, but prices vary greatly from surgeon to surgeon and country to country.

The DS can be done laproscopically. I had mine done open, but it wasn't much more painful than the lap hernia repair I had, and nothing like as painful as I'd prepared myself for.

How fast you will lose depends in part on how much you have to lose. What I mean is, if you need to lose 100 pounds, and I need to lose 200 pounds, and we both lose 20% of our excess weight in a month, you'd have lost 20 pounds and I'd have lost 40 pounds, but we'd have lost at the same rate.

But yes, you'll lose much faster with the DS than with the LapBand. About the same as with the Sleeve or the RNY, or perhaps a little faster. And it's a very easily maintained weight loss.

I am considering the duodenal switch. I need to lose 75 lbs. Can I still do it if I dont need to lose 100 lbs. And is it a lot more exspensive then the lapband? Also is it really really painful after surgery?
Will I lose fast on this?

Topic: RE: Anyone take Mobic ?
Hi,

I've taken Mobic after two car accidents and for my arthritis.  It's very gentle and the surgeon that now runs the department where I had my surgery didn't have a problem with it.   Much more gentle then diclofenac aka Voltaren.  I can't get my insurace company to approve Celebrex for me.  I liked that alot but Mobic comes in two doses 7.5 or 15 mg.   I have had no issues with it at all. Of course any nsaid has stomach risks but the surgeon thought in moderation it wasn't that jarring on the pouch.

It is an NSAID but doesn't have the hard stomach effects like when you take Ibuprofen. That gave me terrible reflux  when it was all I had to take.

thank you for all your info. I will be happy to let you know what he says but I can almost bet he will want to stick with the status quo.....

My appt. is on the 19th so if you dont hear back from me feel free to message me, I may not remember I fear...

I have been doing excellent on the recipe we are following and I have myself down to 3mg prednisone......will try to go down to 2mg in another month.....so I am not far from being off of it...however I feel the motrin and sulfasalazine will take a toll on my pouch but I do take an anti ulcer med to protect it....

hope you continue to do so well with your meds I remember when I first got RA (at age 22) there was so very little in the way of meds we have come a long long way....

best regards, chris

Topic: Anyone take Mobic ?
Celebrex doesn't seem to be helping my hands . I asked my pcp about Mobic and he said he thought I would be able to take that. Has anyone tried that and have you had any side affects ?
Thanks

thanks for your reply. It sounds like you came right into the best set up for your....glad that has helped you so much.

In the past I have been on placquinil as well as methotrexate.....hated both. had side effects and would get breakthroughs if they didint ad prednisone. then I got with this doctor who mixed things up a bit with what he calls and old timy rememdy....(I had hard time living with the side effects of some of the new highteck drugs) he put me on sulfassalazine accpmpanied by motirin multilible doses per day I go along find and when a flair up comes along he hits me with prednisone which as you know is then very hard to get off of it....I dont want to be on it but for now it is a lower dose and things are smooth. with bypass surgery now I have to condsider what I am dropping in my gut and NONE OF THIS IS GOOD....so the doc and I need to have A TALK.

I get antsy about stopping something that works to hookup with something I may or maynot react well to and I know his attitude is IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT....the predinisone can really stand in my way of my progress and I think we have to face that head on together. Thanks for your input becasue it about 10days I will be seeing him and will get him to play what if with me.....warm regards chris
