Topic: RE: knee replacement prior to age 60?
Holly, I just found this board today. I had my first knee replacement 7 yeras ago I was 53 years old and over 400 lbs. I did great and was up and walking and home in less than a week. I had my 2nd knee replacement on the other knee 3 years ago at age 57 and still over 400 lbs. That was harder don't know why but sppent  3 weeks in rehab. I guess I am lucky to have had an understanding good orthopedic surgeon . Pam

Topic: RE: Anyone taking Lyrica?

I have been taking the Lyrica for about 2 weeks,  I have Lymphedema in my left arm as a result of a lumpdeckmy from breast cancer.  I have noticed that the deep down bone pain has gone away fromt his arm.  i also  have Fibromyalgia(have been diagnosed with that for about 8 years) I take a various medicines for the pain, daroset, lodine.  Like I said since adding the Lyrica the deep pains in my hip joints and legs do seem to be going away.  I have also have the weaight loss surgery and had gained weight back which I am working on to get rid of again. So I am well aware of any weight gain that I may have with the Lyrica.  I have not noticed any.  I am taking the 75 mg twice a day at the same time each day.  I work so I must deal with any side effects and go on.

Hopes this helps anyone considering adding Lycria.  I would recommend it as of now.

Topic: RE: Is Arthritis A Co-Morbidity?
Since your just starting looking - check out all the surgeries available to you. The big ones right now are labband, rny and Bpd/ds. Have you gone to any information sessions? They are usually held at the hospitals and some you need to register for. They are many sites with information on all the weight loss surgeries they are not all the same - yet all can help you lose the weight. Which surgery you chose is between you and the surgeon of your choice  Good Luck on your journey, Jeane P.s. I choose the ds - due to my health issues and need to take my arthritis meds

Topic: RE: Methotrexate questions
Melissa, Thank you for your response.   Is MTX an abbreviation for Methotrexate?  How often are the injections done?  Is it weekly? The dose he prescribed did stop progression of the Sarcoidlsis.  But he agreed that it has hindered my quality of life. My doctor just told me to try taking half of a dose for this month.  Then he will do a pulmonary function test and another CT scan.  If it still works at half of the dose, that will be great. If half of the dose of this doesn't work, are there other options with lower side effects I can check on? Loretta

Topic: RE: Cancelled RNY
I am sorry they let you wander along and then tell you about the rny and ansaids. My surgeon told me on my first visit and suggested the DS - which I had done. Took longer to get approved - but am sure glad I can take my meds. I use Methltrexate injections, folic acid and will resume Enbrel when off of blood thinners due to a DVT. Anyway I would look into your insurance and then see if you could appeal if they deny the DS. It is so great to be able to take a couple of IB and othere meds. when I feel miserable from my RA

Hi, I'm new to this board. Just found it -  You might want to ask about the injections for MTX  it seems to cause less complications. Anyway I have had RA for 20 yrs. now. For the last 5 yr. I have been on MTX pills and these last 2 yrs. injections. The injections seem to work better for me and no headaches and gi problems. I was using Enbrel and MTX injections once  a week. I had my surgery for WLS on 7/25 and developed a DVT and can't take my enbrel til I'm off coumadin (6 more months).  The MTX handles most of my difcomfort - but he enbrel really took away all my pain and I was able to swim 6 days a week I can't wait til March 08.

Topic: RE: Morphea
Great News!  I just got a call from my WLS doctor and he said that I am approved for surgery.  Dr. Broussard consulted with a rheumatologist and since morphea is not systemic (limited only to the skin) that lap band surgery is ok for those with morphea.  Good luck and keep us all informed of how everything goes for you.
