Topic: RE: Black Cherry for gout and general foot osteoarthritis
Hi prayinghard2day,

I'm not sure how the black cherry will work for rheumatoid but it wouldn't hurt to try.  My husband uses it for psiriatic arthritis and it works great for that too.  I don't use the liquid glucosomine but I have known people who have.  I haven't had surgery yet and I have wondered what I would do about my glucosomine.  It has been so helpful to me that I can't imagine going without it.  I have had people (one of them my NUT) advise me to get a pill splitter.  I don't care what it tastes like but if I have to take it crushed up with food or water, I'll do that.  Of course, that's easy for me to say before my surgery.  Here's a link to a resource for glucosomine and arthritis.

I hope this can help you.  Good luck and God Bless you.  I hope you can be feeling better soon.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and it affects my feet terribly.  I have been trying to take the glucosomine but the pills are gi-normous and they gag me. What liquid glucosomine do you use?  I can't do the artificial sweetners because they give me migraines so if it has sugar/sucralose I'm ok with it.

I never heard about black cherry helping with feet issues, but I will definitely try it because the pain is truly debilitating for me now.  The joints in my feet are so inflamed that I can't stand to wear socks on my feet even when it's freezing outside!  Most nights the pain & tingling hinders me from going to sleep at night or interrupts my sleep if I get to sleep.  I haven't had my surgery yet, I was really hoping that losing weight would help but I knew in my heart there was something else that could help too.

Thanks for the post!!

My PCP feels I should stop the aleve preoperatively so that my stomach will be lesion free at surgery.  So the question remains...what about the hip pain?  I put a patch on today that seems to help.  Any other suggestions?

Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) is an herbal remedie for your feet.  I use the concentrate for a flare up and the capsule (which can be opened and mixed with food) for daily maintenance.  It works wonders and has transformed my life.  I have yet to have my surgery but have syffered from arthritis for uuyears.  I am no longer on prescription meds for arthritis.  I use the black cherry and glucosomine (drs. recommendation - 1500mg/day) for my knees.  The glucosomine comes in liquid but I am not sure of the suger content.

Topic: RE: Knee Replacements at age 40??
I have had 2 total knee replacements: my first at age 50 and my second at 51 (last year). I have never regretted either decision. I now walk without hobbling along and feel much younger.

Both my knees were bone on bone and the left was so worn that the tibia was bending and I had become a bit bow-legged! Shortly after surgery the bone straighten again.

You are very young at 40 to have to face this surgery but I wanted to share that with the right surgeon and doing your exercises, your quality of life could improve immensely

Good luck to you!

Oh, I agree---you simply have to weigh the benefits against the risks. I've had severe arthritis since I was 20, and I'm 52 now. I just wanted to be sure you did realize it was an NSAID.

Topic: RE: New Member with Spinal Stenosis, DDD, PCOS and Sciatica seeks help
I understand your pain and frustration. I have bulging discs up and down my spine, Spinal Stenosis. I am going to have my lower back fused in a couple of months. Hopefully that will help. I just had the VSG surgery in late March so that I could lose  50 lbs before going under the knife again. Like you, I spend most of my day in bed because the pain is so horrific. Luckily my Dr. provides me with 3 extended Release Oxycontin, per day,  which barely controls the pain. But at least I am no longer suffering, and I am working towards a solution. See what coverage you can get under medicaid, and come up with a plan to get your health back. That's what I am doing, and it's a long process. But you matter. Don't give up.

Arthrotec is designed to relieve the symptoms of arthritis in people who are also prone to ulcers. It contains diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for control of the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. However, since NSAIDs can cause stomach ulcers in susceptible people, Arthrotec also contains misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin that serves to reduce the production of stomach acid, protect the stomach lining, and thus prevent ulcers.

Although Arthrotec is designed to protect against stomach ulcers and bleeding, they remain a possibility. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice signs of bleeding such as black tarry stools. Also call the doctor if you develop severe diarrhea, cramping, or nausea, or if milder symptoms persist for more than 7 days.

Yes I am aware, but when you are living with arthritis, swelling and joint pain and it affects your quality of life?  I have to do something.  I am being closely watched by my doctor and no stomach pain or irritation so far.
