I started my vitamins a few weeks before surgery, I have Bariatric Advantage chewables.  I'm with you on the swallowing part....I HATE HATE HATE taking pills.

There is nothing wrong with taking them before- in fact, I think it's a good idea, because once you have surgery, you body will be 'shocked' by very low caloric intake for a few weeks, so imo it's good to have the best vitamin levels you can.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything but if he can't follow the regimine now to lose the weight before surgery, he probably won't be able to follow the rules after he has the surgery.  Weight Loss Surgery is not a magic bullet where you have the surgery and you lose 100's of pounds forever.  If you don't follow the rules of the pouch or surgery, the weight will come back and then it'll be the surgery that failed instead of the brain.  He needs to get in his mind that he absolutely wants this surgery and will do anything he needs to get it and keep the weight off.  Until he does that, it's not going to work.

He needs to find a support group and go.  He needs to work a nutritionist and follow the guidelines.  When he does these things and uses the tools given to him, he'll be ready for this surgery.  Right now, he's not because he won't do what needs to be done.

I have someone who would love to be approved for the surgery and is willing and has done everything he needs to prepare for it.  His insurance company has a total exclusion.  He's still willing to try to fund this out of pocket.  He's that ready and committed.

Topic: Chewable Vitamins
I am in the process of completing the requirements per my insurance to get approved for surgery.  I still have a couple of more months Dr. supervised weight loss visits but do not forsee any problems getting approved since my insurance policy has the requirements outlined in detail.  I do not like swallowing vitamins at all and am happy that there are chewable vitamins since it's so important to my sucess.  My question is: I want to start vitamins now since I am currently on a weight loss plan.  Can I use the Optisource vitamins before I have the surgery?  I already have to take 7 different meds in addition to a shot twice a day now for diabetes, etc so I really hope I can take the chewable vitamins now because I do not want to swallow anymore pills if I don't have to, especially a large multi vitamin.  Does anyone know the answer to this?

Its getting aggrivating I got him this stuff called Bariatric Advantage- I know a lady whos hubby lost 17 lbs in 2 weeks. I cant get him to do it. He ried it, and said it was nasty.

911 - 411 4 2010

A friend shot me an email requesting an emergency support group!

Soooooo ARIZONA ....we are going to kick it up a notch and provide a starting place for those who:

Have regain!
Haven't lost more or to their goal!
Are Frustrated with plateaus!
Have taken unhealthy directions with their life.
Who are at or near goal but are struggling to maintain.
Who are worried about the future and their "weighty obstacles"!
Who just trashed their program through the Holidays and need a jumpstart!
Who struggle with stay ON TRACK!!!

This gathering will NOT be a "poor me" forum but a positive action meeting where we will provide concrete information for "OUR" needs and interests with research, tried lifestyle programs, etc.

If YOU ARE SERIOUS about getting focused and ON TRACK then you are invited.   We won't be sharing our surgeon information because no one really cares who started your journey; we just want to help each other get the BEST out of their journey!

This is a ONE time meeting.  If people express interest for further meetings then we will organize ourselves and make a plan!

This emergency meeting will be held in place of the old Chandler support group on Tuesday the 26th of January (4th Tuesday) at 6:00 pm at Chandler Regional Hospital on Frye and Dobson.

Feel free to email me if you have questions, ideas, or just want to chatter about your WLS struggles and successes.

This 411 4 2010 will be called ABOTT =  ACTIVELY Back on Track Together!!!  I highly recommend Cathy's O.H. group "Back on Track Together" which all can join through the OH groups option.

See you soon!  Come prepared to get serious!

how is the New Year treating you??
Hey there Miss Positive thoughts Jeannie O!!!

Love it!  Thanks!

OK, so I took off on a solo roadtrip a few days ago with a sketchy outline of the adventure ahead.  My 3 goals were to.
1.  Spend time with my daughter in the Bay Area (right here, right now and doing it!  Yay!)
2.  See one of the world's best Duodenal Switch surgeon's in L.A. (scheduled for next t Tuesday!  can't wait!)
3.  Do some hiking, chill by the ocean,  make a new plan for life.  (done it, doing it and plans for more....leaving on a hike to a waterfall in a few minutes.  Woooo Hooooo!)

My New Year has rocked so far!  I'm back on track with healthy eating and living and feeling sooooo much better.  I have plans set that can reinvent "me" and am making giant leaps out of old ruts.

Thanks for posting a "happy note"!!!
