Topic: RE: Cash cost for lap band or gastric sleeve?
4 years ago I paid 8K for a band in Mexico...but had problems, and by the time it was removed I was 15K in the hole.  The surgeon didn't charge me, but the hospital did, and it costs to fly there.
He told me he could do a RNY for 8K since my liver had shrunk, normally 12k

back then the AZ hospitals all charged about 12K for the band.

My RNY hospital bill was about 49K, and it seems that my insurance paid them about 27K, so I'm guessing that a cash payment would be somewhere around that.

Topic: RE: Revision from Band to RNY or DS anyone in AZ???

I had a band to vsg revision but it doesn't sound like you are interested in that.  I think Schleisinger (sp?) does revisions to ds; I met someone who had revised to ds with him i believe.

Thank you for responding, tho I am not as interested in a another purely restrictive surgery as is the case with the sleeve.  I am much more interested in either DS or RNY, which is why I am wondering if there is anyone in AZ that has gotten either of those surgeries and if they have a local doctor that is does their labs to ensure that they are not vitamin deficient as that will be key in long-term success.

My goal and I am so close to achieving it is to complete the PF Chang half marathon which I will be walking. I do not planning on running anywhere ever unless someone is chasing me with a loaded weapon and has a reasonable chance of hitting me.
Seriously though I really walking the half marathon next week at PF Chang and my goal is to finish is less than 4 hours hopefully less than 3 hrs 35 minutes. I actually walked about 16.5 miles today.
You walked 16.5 miles without a loaded gun pointed your direction????  That is a huge accomplishment in itself!  Best wishes at the PF Chang!!!  Let us know how it goes!

You CAN do it!!!

My goals this year are 2 fold.

The first is to finish losing the final 20 lbs to get me to goal.  After that start a good running program to do a 1/2 marathon.

Depends on where you have it done. There are not many experienced sleeve surgeons in AZ. When I was researching the sleeve it would have cost about 25K to have it done here but like I said no surgeon locally has much experience with the sleeve.
In Mexico it cost me less than 9K and many surgeons in MX are doing it for less than 6K these days and are for more skilled and experienced than any AZ bariatric surgeon. RNY would be much more though I don't know how much more. If I had to guess I would say cash price for bypass in AZ would probably be 30-35K but that is a guess.
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

There are many folks in AZ that have revised from band to sleeve. You may try posting on the sleeve board.
I know Midwesterngirl is an avid advocate for band to sleeve revision with Dr Aceves.
