Topic: RE: HELP! Endocrinologist has abandoned me!
I hope your surgery went well. I too am a type 1 diabetic and had a RNY on June 1st, 2011. I'm also on the insulin pump (saved my life!!). We know our bodies better than doctors do. Even if your endo gave you guidelines, you would have to adjust accordingly. In fact, while in the hospital, I was having highs and just asked the nurse if I could adjust my insulin myself. It took the whole first day to get it down, but I know more about the pump than they did!! Trust yourself. It is scary. My endo didn't even come to see me in the hospital. And if he would have, I had everything under control...lol
Topic: Type 1 diabetic-what to eat for lows
I've been a type 1 for 23 years. Three months ago I had a RNY. I've lost a total of 53 lbs so far. My problem is I've become lactose intolerant so I can't drink milk for my lows. I also dump on sugar(juice), so I end-up on the toilet after treating a low. I had a 39 the other night. It was so scary. It took forever to come up. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what I could eat/drink to get my lows up without dumping. Thanks so much for any ideas.

My advice would be to get the DS instead. It has the highest resolution rate of any surgery for type 2 diabetes; the band has the LOWEST. Even the VSG has better diabetes stats than the band.

Topic: RE: NIPHS - Noninsulinoma Pancreatogenous hypoglycemia syndrome
I hope you have resolved your problem. FYI I too am hypo and had the DS. It seems to happen not long after I eat and I can end up at a reading of 50 sometimes. I am currently laying down because of an episode and not feeling well at all. I have had this happen less than a dozen times since surgery in may of 10.
Topic: Just was told I have Type 2 and ........
So I went to a new doc in order to get my lap band I had to have a family doc... she did some basic tests on me and called me with in a few hours and told me I have type 2.. ... I am done with all my pre tests with the Surgery Doc and now wonder what is ahead of my with diabetes and getting my lap band.. I am 5'4 and 220 pounds.... I have yet to start my pill med for diabetes for more reasons then one.. One being the side affects are a mile long and the other being that i am in denial.
I have a appt with my surgery doc on aug 31 and the last time i talked to him he said i should be ready to go with a date next time I see him....
Anyone have any advice or have type 2 and get lap band???

Topic: RE: Victoza
I was on this for 1 month. The first two weeks it worked pretty well, the second teo weeks I woke up with glucose readings over 250. I immedietely went back to Byetta. I like the Byetta better for me if it wasn't for the sweating. That is why I have chosen WLS. I am Type II diabetic too.
Topic: RE: sugar in the liquid tylenols?
don't know how much sugar is in it, I have heard some folks dump on it however.
If your needing pain meds, I would talk to your Surgeon -

Topic: sugar in the liquid tylenols?
has anyone experienced dumping or high sugars after taking a full adult dose of liquid tylenol (or other brand)? A full dose of 850mg is about 2 tablespoons.
I can't find anything online about how much sugar is it it. Sucrose is one of the last ingredients. Yet when I took it I felt suddenly weak and sickly, and my sugar had skyrocketed to 290. I'm only a few days out from surgery. Eating my 2 oz of protein shake usually brings me to around 180 at this point.
Any ideas?

Topic: RE: sugar levels goin up
Not only do numbers naturally fluctuate, but there is also a mergin of error in glucose meters. You can test your blood and get a reading of 107 and then immediately test it again within 60 seconds and see 116. Your numbers are not swinging wildly enough that I would be concerned.
Also, how long after you eat something are you checking? And what do you use to make your protein shakes? Not all protein shakes are low in carbs. I know a lot of diabetics who can't normally handle skim milk without a but of a spike in glucose levels, but I'm not sure if that's what you're using for your shakes.

Topic: RE: I am pregnant and my OBGYN says
Wait, are you also diabetic? You didn't mention that, but this is the diabetes forum, so I assume so...
Anyway, did he give s epcific REASON? I know plenty of women who have had babies at 35+, plenty who have had babies after various WLS procedures, and some who have had babies after a TT. Unless there's something specific he's concerned about, I'm not sure what the issue is. I would be sure to get in with an OB practice that can monitor high-risk patients closely, but other than that, I would say...congratulations!
