Topic: NIPHS - Noninsulinoma Pancreatogenous hypoglycemia syndrome
I just received this diagnosis due to my sugar levels shooting up and then bottoming out. I was petrified to even take the glucose test, but finally agreed, as long as they would monitor me during the test. Knowing how I react to sugar, I have had minimal sugar since I had rny surgery in 2008. In fact, I think the Dr. did not believe me when I said I avoid refined sugar and still have these fluctuations. She believes me now.

Is there some good information on this subject? A good reference website for the information? Is there anyone who has it who could tell me how they dealt with it? I am very concerned because it only seems to be getting worse.

I too am also 8 years post op and just began having this problem in the last 2 years.  I am also a recovering alcoholic, thanks to addiction switching, which I knew nothing about.  I thought maybe I had harmed my body with the alcohol.  I am working with an endocrinologist, but he is hesitant to put me on any medication.  He has me monitoring my carb intake so it doesn't spike too high, in turn causing the low low numbers.  What sucks is that I had the surgery as part of a prevention for diabetes.  Looks like I'm going to have to monitor it more closely because I still can't seem to stablize it with food.

I don't believe that the medics know quite why the rny is the most effective for diabetes.  I went in for the rny, but my anatomy made the vsg the more viable option.  I was disappointed initially, but am really glad now as I don't have the side effects of the rny and only take a daily multivitamin.  At one point I was on 480 units of insulin and 18 tablets, been off insulin 2 months and now on 3 tablets.  As further weight comes off I should be able to reduce the tablets further.  Best of luck!

I am not a dr so i can only tell you what i was told .. I am preop for rny i am type 2 diabetis which is one of the main reasons i am going to do this surgery to improve my health and take my life back . i Take 5 insulin in a day . when i started thepreop diet both my husband and i are doing it we both have thad a hard time regulating our sugars husband is only on pills has began to cut his pills in half and cut down on the dose, Dr told us both within 3 months we would most likely be off our meds . We both have been dibetic since 2005 . The reason blood sugar reacts is not clearly known to dr but he did tell us that out of all the wls rny is the one that diabetis improves the most to.
SO this all i know .. from reading and dr appointments ..
Good Luck
