Brushes with fame....a continuing thread from PattyL's post....
I replied to Dennie about his history and we lived in Kansas City, Mo when I was a kid.
In Texarkana, I was due to be born and his station had just been on the air for one year at that time. They had a name the baby contest (knowing full well that I would be named Elizabeth Ann and nicknamed Teri, if I were a girl)..but it brought all kinds of awareness to the station and having a good PR director even had the office of Winston Churchill call the station to congratulate my dad on my arrival (and I was named for the Queen, afterall!)
His first radio job was in Michigan, where he met my mom. The midwest was a good bit of his playground for while. Wow, the memories talking about all this brings forth!
I knew your dad, Soapy! He was in NYC and then I *Thnk* in Toledo for a while. It was somewhere that I had lived for a while. I didn't know him close up and personal, but I sure knew OF him. What a small world?
Love

Yup, he was in Toledo too...and on KOSY in Texarkana or thereabouts...and WHB, Kansas City, Mo...where my brothers and I sang his (offkey) station break song, and others that I dont remember.
That really was a trip(p)! He wasnt much of a daddy, tho. Too hung up on his fame and groupies.
Then his karma came in the form of a huge Payola scandal that brought him and others (like Alan Freed) down. That was a drag, but hey, illegal is illegal. Actually, tho, he was in Toledo after that.
