QUESTION ABOUT ST VINCENTS , CARMEL INDIANA

I was just wondering if they let you have family members stay at the hospital with you after surgery?

I have been calling around for hotels and just happens the week I have surgery there is a big confrence in town and they are pretty booked up and those who are not..the rates are really high!!

I was just kind of wondering how big the room is that I will be in or how there waiting areas are?

Is it a family friendly hospital?

Thanks,

Lucy

I just added that to my huge list of questions for our preop meeting.  I think rather than ask though, I just need to tellem that my momma will be staying with me after my surgery otherwise they will need to prepare two operating rooms.  One for my DS and the other to surgically remover her from my side.  I love my Mommy! I would love that hotel info you found, what was the closest?
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Hi Vicki

Well I was checking around and I have made two different reservations at two hotels close by but I don't think I will be able to afford them but I went ahead and made the reseverations anyway becouse of the big confrence the week of my surgery....( your week should be fine ) lol

I have a room at the

 COMFORT SUITES-CARMEL
15131 THATCHER LANE
CARMEL, IN 46033 USA

Phone: (317) 575-0000

They quoted me 85.00 per night ( I booked for 7 nights ) so i would have a few days after the surgery if i wanted to stay...the rest of the time would be for family comming in and out...

and i also made reservations at the

DOUBLE TREE

11355 N. Meridian Street
Carmel, IN 46032
(317) 844-7994

they quoted me 119.00 per night but would only hold the room if i stay at least 3-4 nights at that price...becouse of the convention.....they are booking that same room for 179.00 for the convention....????

But probley what i will have to do is cancel both and just have charlie and becki stay the first night or two and them they can go home...and then when  i get out of the hospital charlie and i can stay somewhere close by for a couple of nights if i feel the need too,,,,I will have alot of people there the day of surgery ......but everyone will be in and out after that...I just really don't know what to do yet...

I know i dont want to spend that kind of money for the whole week while I will be in the hospital...??

I am so so confused...I think the 1 month and 2 week FREAK i****ting me now!!

yeah, could be girlie - dunno - I am so not into spending the night in a hotel unless I have too (or unless there is something exotic or smarmy going on).  It is my family that is pushing for the hotel.  I know I would not sleep and be totally uncomfortable.  I know I will have to leave here at 4:30 in the morning but hey, I only have to do it 3 times.  I guess we'll see.  Comfort Suites sounds like the ticket though if you need a hotel room.

Lucy,  When I had my surgery on Jan 25th my mom and sister spent 2 nights at the Comfort Suites Carmel. There wasn't anything in town on that weekend so I was quoted a discounted rate of $72.00 a night. They were really pleased with the place. I would recommend that one. When I went to the nutrition class one of the things they gave us was a list of hotels that offer discounted rates for St. Vincent's patients and families. Good luck on your upcomming surgery! Judy

Thanks Judy

They quoted me 85.00 a night with things going on the week I will be there! grrr.

I think I will probley stay there a couple days after I get out of the hospital to stay close to the hospital a little longer..by then I think the confrence is over then I should get a better rate!!

On the day of my pre-op testing I asked a nurse if she thought it was wise for me to spend a night or two in a hotel there just to be safe. She said that they wouldn't release me if they didn't think I was ready to go home. She was right. I do understand you wanting to be safe but you may not need to stay close to the hospital after surgery. Just a thought. Judy

My mom slept in my room every night.  She just asked for a cot and they brought one in, they were very helpful and very accommodating. The rooms are definitely not big enough for more than one extra person to sleep, but if they really want to spend the night they will (i believe) allow family members to sleep on the couches or chairs in the waiting rooms. I found it to be very family friendly there. i was there for quite a while with complications and my family including my extended family of like 30 plus people and my then 9 month old nephew , were in and out all the time and i had no problems or concerns that i can remember. Good Luck w/ your surgery and i hope this helps. ~Jennifer
