I used the stirring technique and it worked quite well.

Pour over ice works well for eliminating some.  Stirring with a metal spoon also works.

If you are drinking out of a can pour over ice.  If it's in a bottle take a sip out of it first, or pour a little out and put the cap back on and shake it up, and open the cap a little at a time carefully to make sure it doesn't spill over.  I've been doing this for years with ym soda, because I am not too fond of carbonation..lol.

My experience for getting the best results is to pour it in a tall glass with ice, and then stir with a long teaspoon rapidly . . When it quits swirling, the fizz will come to the top and "bubble off" ..  Repeat this process several times until you can't get hardly any more fizz to come up.   Then drink, but don't use a straw, as it will draw in air.

The longer method is just to open it and let it sit for a few hours.   I usually crack my 2 liter bottles as soon as I get home with them from the store, so by the time I get to pouring some later in the day they are usually pretty fizzed-out.

Pour into an oversized glass, (make sure the kids are not looking!) use a straw and blow bubbles till flat enough.
