All the vetted DS surgeons can be found on:  DSFacts.com

You're one of the lucky ones, there are some really great DS surgeons to choose from in Cali!

Normal BMI (24.9)  =  159#:  would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.

Not in the IE, but Crookes and Keshishian are nearby.  Most people have to travel through several states or to other continents!

Chances are you're going to have to travel a few hours. No biggie. Most of us did.

For what it's worth, Dr. Douglas Krahn, despite his website and his staff's evasiveness on the phone, does NOT do the DS.  He is in a lot of networks out this way, so I thought I'd throw that out there.  Neither does Dr. David Suh, another IE bariatric surgeon.  Both of those were in my  insurance network when I was investigating.

I think either of them, Krahn and Suh, are fine surgeons for what they offer (RNY and Lap-Band.)

The only 2 in So Cal are Dr. Crookes at USC and Dr. Keshishian who has office hours and operates in Glendale.  His main office is outside Bakersfield.

Good luck,

Aimee :)

I don't have much to add, you've gotten alot of great advice on where to search for a DS surgeon. But I was wondering if you have a HMO or PPO? If  you can choose any provider you want and can manage the 3000 dollar program fee that Dr. K requires I would definitely try to get in for a consult with him. If you have a HMO,  you need to get approved for the RNY first then go back to your PCP and request the DS. If  you need any help or have any questions feel free to PM me. Best of luck

I think the nearest you're gonna get is Dr. Keshishian in Glendale.

And: He's fabulous!

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Dr.K's hospital in Glendale is a Center of Excellence. You may want to check to see if your insurance requires that.
Won against big bad (SoCal) Kaiser for a Duodenal Switch  Haven't heard of DS? Kaiser wants it that way. Come on over & read the truth
Hit goal (Normal BMI) on 2-10-11!    I LOVE my DS!!
My approval process timeline:
02/12/09 - Dr. refused to refer me for WLS
03/03/09 - Vented/whined about it on another board, planned to just wait until next year & switch plans
Let's see what happens!  **updates in blog**
