FLYING early AM, scared to have to use plane bathroom HELP
Ok so I am going on a business trip first week of january to California. I am freaking out as my meeting starts at noon which means I need to fly out the earliest flight which is at 6:40am and it's a 6 hour flight. Why am I freaking out you may ask? Well I am a morning pooper and usually go 2-3 times between 7 and 8 am. What am I going to do? I considered leaving the day before but if I do I will need to pay a $200 room rate for the night before since my conference doesn't start till noon the next day (dam company trying to cut costs). Have any of you that travel had to use the bathroom in the plane? And if so what do you recommend?
I am leaving for Guatemala on Saturday -- a 5am flight. My system will be all messed up, because I have a 4 hour drive down to Chicago the night before, and I doubt I will eat well or sleep much.
So, you could take some MOM earlier in the evening, to make sure things move on through earlier in the morning. Or, just take some good spray --- that is what I am doing. I hate airplane bathrooms --- they are filthy and always stink. What I contribute (stink wise -- I always clean the thing with disinfectant wipes as soon as I get in there) will be a drop in the bucket!

I have flown a couple of times since surgery... my thing was gas and I was able to handle it through the whole fly although I swear when I got in my car I though I had sprung a permanent leak!!! my system was screwed up for a couple of days.. I had LOTS of water.. I am the same way and I go about 3-4 times every morning... you need to see what is more comfy for you.. you might be alright and then again you may need to get up there and get rest before your meeting

If you go really low carb the day before, you should be fine. Plus your regular probiotic... I've tried this and it works like a charm!

I know for a fact that those airplane toilets smell way more rank than anything that I can contribute, so I suspect you may be overly worried - but -
If you use the bathroom at the airport while you are waiting for the plane (you usually have to wait at the gate for a while, and there is always a restroom nearby) then just sit there for a little bit, that is usually enough to get the extra moved on through, and prevent the secondary poops that come a bit later. For me, it helps me avoid going on the plane at all. Good luck.

I would be very careful with your diet the day before and the day of your flight. I also travel with a pocket-sized can of Ozium (purchased at Walgreens in the aisle with the travel sized items) and the individual packets of "Just a Drop" (purchased online). I haven't actually used either one but I do fly every week from Detroit to SF. Somehow my body seems to adapt to my schedule even though the schedule constantly changes.
Enjoy your trip and good luck!

LInda - have you noticed that your gas is worse when you fly? Every time I've flown, I notice that I get gassy, and I wonder if it's the air pressure. I've learned to be very careful with my carbs the day before as well.

Hi Julie,
I very rarely have any gas issues so I haven't really noticed any consistent issues when I fly. Maybe once or twice have I felt a little rumbly or bloated but that hasn't happened often at all. Thank goodness since my Detroit - SF trip is 4.5 - 5 hours and that would be kinda miserable.

I'll bet you will poop the same amount of time after you get up for your flight as you do every day. I do the same thing, but I usually get up at 5:00 AM, so I have my first BM by about 5:30 AM, second one 30 - 40 minutes later. If I get up at 6:00 AM the BM schedule just moves back an hour.
Try a few test runs to see if it works this way for you too. If it does, just get up early enough to get your business done before you need to leave for the airport.
