OT- Can you OD on Ibuprofen?

I had my tongue pierced like 3 years ago and had to take it out about a year ago for a job I had. I put it (forced it) back in the other day.  It was fine until about the last milimeter and then I really had to force it through the bottom of my tongue.

So now, my tongue is sore and swollen just like the first day I had it pierced. I've been taking 6 (200mg) ibuprofens every 4-6 hours or so.

Am I going to die if I keep it up until my tongue isn't sore anymore?

Thanks!

Six ibuprofen is a lot to be taking. Yes, you can OD on Ibuprofen, but I think it takes a lot. It can do a lot of liver damage.

As for it helping your tongue, well, I'm not so sure that it is though. It's like taking an advil to help a knife cut. It just doesn't do much. It's good for muscle aches, cramps, temperatures, headaches, but I'm not so sure that puncture wounds.

It does help with the pain, actually. I can tell when it wears off, as my tongue is a lot more sore.

well, most stuff thins your blood. You might not want to do that being that you just pierced your tongue by hand... I am not sure what to tell you. i am not a doctor. you could call one or talk to someone at your doctors office. I am sure they could help you.

Rinse with Listerine diluted 50/50 with water, as often as you like (and after everything you put in your mouth, every sip, every bite of food, every cigarette, ect).  It will numb your tongue.  Back off the Ibuprophen.  Take the bolt out of your tongue and let it heal.  Are you aware that the tongue is one of the fastest healing structures on the body (for good reason, any open wounds there leave you susceptible to SO many systemic nasties), your tongue was closed within a week of taking that first piercing out, really more like 3 days.   So you didn't just "put it back in", you officially repierced it.

I HAVE to say this...  That was a very poor decision on your part.  Do you know there is a large vein in your tongue, that you can actually bleed profusely from?  There are also tons of nerve bundles.  And, I'm sure there was some scar tissue you have perforated.  The exposures to who knows what, directly into your system are substantial...  I won't even get into the damage to your gums & teeth.  Professional piercings are one thing, this is totally a different ball game.  Oh, and let me finish by saying, I had my tongue pierced from the time I was 18 until my pregnancy at age 30, so it's not like I'm being a cynic either...

You are risking a GI bleed by doing this. Go see your doctor.

That's definitely too much. This has nothing to do with wls, anyone can take too much ibuprofen (or any other NSAID) and it can cause bleeding in your stomach that can be life-threatening. Back down, way down, on the ibuprofen, and if you need more pain meds, contact your doctor for a prescription for something more. Just because you can get something over the counter doesn't mean it can't be dangerous.

And I hate to tell you this, but I bet when you go in for your surgery they are going to make you take that dang thing out. So what I would really recommend, better than more pain meds, is removing it now, letting your poor tongue heal and waiting a good long time before  having it put back in (professionally!), if ever. And your tongue will probably feel a lot better a lot quicker without the foreign body stuck in it.

um...you guys...I did not piece it by hand...that would be stupid. I had it done at a tattoo shop 3 years ago and I just put it back in after a year of being out. Only a tiny part of it had closed.... and yes I know I  need to take it out for surgery- 2 months from now.
