spicy foods after the DS???
I read someone mentioning here recently that they haven't been able to eat Italian food anymore since the DS. I know everyone's experience and tolerances are difference but I wondered if it is common that you are unable to eat spicy food anymore. I know some do get GERD and then it's understandable but how common is GERD after the DS? I would miss Italian and Mexican foods for sure if I wasnt able to eat spicy foods. I just want to know what your experiences are here as the more we know the better. . .
I am able to eat spicy foods to the same degree I was pre-op. Italian food though, I eat very little pasta, if any. It fills me up too fast and too many carbs, unless its dreamfields.
I didn't get heartburn pre-op but do now. I havent been able to pin point the food, but its not spicy ones.
Good luck in your journey...

As a pre-op I had gerd AWEFUL, also I did not tolerate or like spicy foods at all. As a post op the gerd has completely disappeared and I now love, and eat quite often spicy food. Emrils bam creole seasoning is a staple of my almost daily cooking. No need to fear, your eating habits return to normal as a post-op.
I don't have any indigestion issues as a postop. Never really had a problem. A few times really early postop I had some mild indigestion which was no worse than what I got as a preop. I took some tums (a total of 2 times) and I was fine.
I don't eat a lot of italian food due to the carbs and room it takes up in my belly but I eat tomato based sauces with chicken or ricotta and dreamfields. I also eat tons of mexican and low carb tortillas without issues. I never was a huge fan of super spicy foods and I do feel it coming out the other end the next morning if you know what I mean but it was the same as before the DS.
I didnt try eating anything particularly spicy until I was at least a month out, maybe longer.

You got a fast car

I enjoy spicy foods the same as I did pre-op. I had heartburn/indigestion more often in the first 4-6 months post op that was easily controlled with a tums (it wasn't always from spicy food though - sometimes it was from a lack of food).
I haven't had to pop a tums now in about 2 months so I think it was just an early out thing.
