Hi all!
So I completed all my pre-op hoops, and i called BCBS to make sure i had all my ducks in a row, and I just so happened to have asked the question of how long it takes for approval, and the women said that there is no pre approval needed!!!!!!  I just have to make sure I have completed all requirements so the Dr. can submit it like any ordinary claim.  I thought that this surgery needed a preapproval!!  So of course i was skeptical and called back and spoke to someone else who said the same thing.  Is this something new that I have never heard of?  Any one with BCBS please let me know how the insurance process worked for you.  Thanks in advance!

I have BCBS of Illinois HMO. The approval process took place at my PCP's medical group office. They have requirements and hoops to jump through for wls, but once they are complete, it is a standard referral from my pcp that got me the DS. BCBS had nothing to do with it.

I have Federal BCBS and did have to have pre-approval. It only took a few days to get approval. They said as long as you meet the requirements, it would go fairly fast.
