DS vs RNY

So I thought that I had my mind set on RNY.  more common blah blah... But the more that I think of the benefits and the fact that I am so young... I would really prefer DS.   The clinic that I have been going to said that this surgery is recommended for people with a BMI of over 50.  Mine is 40.  Do you think the insurance company will still approve??

DS is a wls form, if wls is deemed medically necessary you will qualify for DS

I've seen plenty of lightweights approved for the DS with a bmi under 50. Good luck!

The DS is approved for anyone who qualifies for Bariatric Surgery, not just for the super morbidly obese. I had a BMI of 40. I fought for the DS. Here's an actual study on it:

Good on you for doing your reseach and giving the DS consideration BEFORE you have another surgery.  From my experience here, the over 50 bmi thing is old news, it's also not experimental, which some surgeons (who don't do the DS) claim.   Good luck going forward.

my bmi was 35, iM DOING VERY WELL, no issues at all., but getting it was tough,  I refused the rny many times from many reknown DS surgeons, very long story, complex issues, and bmi was part of it.  but i would stay fat before I had anything else.  If you must settle, at the minimum I would only do the vsg. top of the DS. but with the cut once for life rule be carefull.

I'm glad you're considering the DS over RNY. The bottom line for staying healthy is that you got to keep your pylorus where it belongs.

The surgery may be recommended by YOUR clinic for people with BMI over 50 but not all surgeons agree.  My BMI was 39.8 when I started the process and 36.8 on the day of surgery.

You should get a copy of your insurance policy and read it.  You can always appeal, especially if it approves any WLS, but not the DS.

Does anyone know where I might find a study comparing the DS with RNY as far as long term results, patient satisfaction, etc.? I am sure they are out there and I want all of this together before I hear back from the doctor. I want to load my gun, so to speak. lol
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f*ckin' perfect.
