Nausea

Hi I've been mainly reading posts from everyone else and getting great info from everyone.

I have a question, I'm 5 weeks post op and things had been going great until the last few days. I saw my surgeon on Thurs he removed my J-Tube and things seemed to be o****il Sat when I started with nausea. I had progressed to regular foods from soft in this time. I watched what i was eating making sure there was nothing i wasn't supposed to eat. Anything I ate made me nauseous even water was giving me problems. Today it got to the point I just have been drinking water.
Has anyone else had problems like this and should I be worried.
I do see my PCP on this Thurs.

Thank you for reading

Are you taking Prilosec (or a PPI)  twice a day? Drink ginger tea or peppermint.  Hope you feel better soon.  ;o)

What the others said will help. I also found that trying to eat at least every 2 hours by keeping a little food in my tummy helped. Try to get your liguids in to. not having a empty tummy helped me.

I had this happen to me. The doctor gave my anti-nausea pills. I also had to go and have an Upper GI done and this determined I had acquired severe acid reflux (which I never had before surgery). My doctor started me on Reglan and protonix. The Reglan he wanted me on for only one month and now just 1 year later I'm being weaned off protonix. Once I started this regime, I was able to eat a little and could at least keep water down. I got so dehydrated and felt horrible when I was like this. Freeze snapple for slussies and eat ice pops. Anything to keep hydrated. Unfortunately my nausea came and went for months and to tell you the truth I still get a bit of nausea in the early morning hours but it goes quickly once I get up and move and get a drink. Good Luck...I feel for you!

I am three weeks post-op and am suffering the same way.  I am very worried as I am only getting probably 20-30g of protein daily and am struggling to eat at all.  I still have my J tube but have yet to use it.  I am able to keep water down but eating creates terrible pain in my stomach and vomiting.  I don't know what to do?  I am worried about the protein and starting to get weak...

Jason, Use you j-tube!!!! Sounds like you're probably dehydrated. The guidelines for protein are 30 by 1 month, 60 by 2 months and 90 by 3 months. You may need IV fluids at this point.

Are you getting enough fluids?

I had this problem in week 3-5ish and I doubled my liquid intake by eating ice pops and slushies. It really helped a lot because the ice helped numb the area and calm it down. Also, I started eating more often even if it was not much. Had hardboiled eggs handy and those were my go-to food (and still are in week 8) when my stomach acts funky.

I also switched my PPI (Prevacid) to the solutab form instead of the pill, and that helped. The 30mg pill was very rough on my stomach or something, or maybe my stomach wasn't ready for it yet, but the solutab was easier to take.

Thank you everyone for the help. I have been able to get a little bit of cold watermelon down and water too. I hope this is just temporary.
