Issues losing weight on my 3 month diet?
I found a doc who will do my DS, Dr Srikanth (found him on DSfacts.com) and I have everything in the works. I'm now on the second month of my 3 month diet where I need to lose a total of 10% of my body weight (which is around 28 lbs)
I have cut my carb and sugar intake by 85% (eating very little if any at all per day) and eating a LOT of protein... but my scale isn't really moving, in a month I lost 3 lbs.I go for walks a couple times a day and if the weather is crappy I play my Wii Fit game for 30 min or so a few times a day (for those who aren't familiar with it, you do aerobics, running in place using your remote as a pedometer, there's boxing and yoga too you do these and other exercises in tune to music and play games that you use your body as a remote, so there is quite a bit of exercise about it)
I am also beginning to take a protein supplement to help curb my cravings for carbs and sugars (I'm drinking half a serving in the morning between lunch and breakfast and the other half between lunch and dinner) GNC 'Amplified Wheybolic extreme 60" (2g of sugar 7g of carb and 280mg of calcium, and 450mg of potassium, and it has 60g of protein per serving,(that's why I'm cutting it down to half a serving at a time, to try and absorb as much protein as I can out of it.)
I have cut down the amount of food I'm eating, and drinking calorie free beverages only. It's a big step up from my couch potato/eat whatever sounds good days... But I guess I expected to see more of a difference then only 3 lbs?
Is this normal?
What did you guys do to lose that pesky weight before surgery?
Any tips will greatly help!

Is the 10% weight loss a requirement of your insurance or Dr. S?
It sounds unreasonable to ask you to do any more than you already are, so I don't have any advice. I had to do a short supervised diet, but I didn't have to lose a certain amount of weight. I didn't have to (nor did I actually) suffer as much as you have. My diet was much more livable for me (180 to 195 grams of carbs a day, if I recall correctly), and I didn't have to add in exercise, and I lost around 12 pounds (although it was with wearing heavier clothes at the beginning weigh-in than the subsequent ones).

I went from 310 to 305 in my 3 month diet. I knew I was doing everything I was told, so I felt it was proof that I needed DS. I was put on a liquid diet the week before surgery to lower complications, and I'm not sure how much I lost that week, but now 2 months out I'm down to 255.
Don't get frustrated, if you could easily lose weight you wouldn't be seeking a surgery. Why do you need to lose 10%? Is it the doctor's requirement? Insurance? or just a goal. I know they like people to lose prior to surgery to lower complications, but if you surgery isn't dependent on it, I would use the time to learn as much as you can about post DS life, and focus on being as healthy as you can for surgery.
Good luck!

3 month diet is insurance required, the doctor i have said he hopes I would lose 10% of my body weight so my liver would become less fatty which would immensely help my doctor with my surgery because it will create less pressure and space restriction in my abdomen. (He's trying to do it lapriscopically, he avoids open surgery's as much as possible.)
He said since Lapriscopic DS is such an invasive surgery it would be safer for me and easier for him. At least that is what I have been told.

Oh I love Dr. S! I was going to travel up to WA to have my surgeon done with him but my insurance fell through and I couldn't. The staff there is AWESOME though. Best of luck!
As far as the 3 month diet, I had to lose 10% of my body weight when I had my lap-band done, and am being told the same thing by my DS surgeon, it's pretty standard. With my band, I was like you, tried EVERYTHING to lose those damn 30 lbs and nothing was making any difference. One week all I ate was baked chicken breast and broccoli for dinner, a sugar free protein bar for lunch, and egg whites for breakfast...and that's it...and I lost 1 lb the entire week even with doing 45 minutes of cardio per day. I was positive that I was going to get to the hospital for my surgery and they were going to send me home for not having lost more than 15 lbs in 3 months. However something great happened when I did my "cleanse" the day before surgery and was on a liquid diet for that day. In one day I magically lost 10 lbs.... seriously don't ask me how, and I'm sure it was water weight, but it brought my total weight loss up to 25 lbs and that was just find for my surgeon.
The surgeon knows that you can't just lose that weight at the drop of a hat or else you wouldn't be in there for surgery to begin with. I think it's more to keep people on track so that they don't think "oh well I'm having surgery soon I might as well get my fill of junk food while I can!" and gain 20 lbs before surgery. Granted what he says about the liver is totally true, but even losing 10 lbs will help that a lot. So just keep doing what you're doing but don't stress over it. The stress on your body right before surgery would be worse than not losing an additional 2 lbs, in my opinion.
Best of luck!!

I lost not a pound on my 6 month diet. I did lose 11 pounds on my 2 week liquid diet before my surgery but that wasn't close to 10%. I know every dr has different requirements but my surgery was still lap.
I did lose pretty well on weigh****chers and Jenny Craig when I did them but I honestly had last supper syndrome too bad on my preop diet.

I would say, keep doing what you are doing. If you could drop weight fast with all the effort you are putting into it, they would probably think you could do without the surgery. It doesn't mean sabotage the efforts, just keep plugging along and try not to stress. Stress will hold up any weightloss program.
Enjoy the Wii Fit workouts. They are fun. Remember to drink enough fluids and just let nature take it's course. You may not lose all of the 10%, but you will lose. You already have.

You are not alone. You and I have the same story. I have the same surgeon as you and I'm doing the same diet. I tried it for three weeks just like he told me and I lost 3lbs. I was killing myself over it and I wasn't loosing anything. He then wanted me to do liquid only to loose the weight. I about broke down in tears in his office.
What did I do? I reintroduced some carbs and calories. I'm still eating protein first, but I've put back in some of the carbs I used to have. I even have a day when I get to about 1500 cal for the whole day. And guess what? I'm down 18 pounds since Easter. I'm more than half way to my goal and I still have 2 months left to go.
I had to find what worked for me. I'm doing low carb, not NO carb. I make sure I eat my protein first, then fill up on the rest. If I indulge in something high carb it's a piece of bread or a bun or fruit. It really has made a difference. I also only walk in the evenings. I average about 45 min and it's not everyday. I do it when I can. Another big thing is to get your 2 quarts of water in. You need the liquid to carry the fat out of your system.
So, add a few more carbs back in is my opinion. Also, exercising longer is more efficient than multiple times a day. I assume he explained the cash and the savings to you. You need to burn out your cash to get to the savings.
Don't lose hope. You can do this.

Wow! Thanks so much you guys! I talked to my family and we got a gym membership, I'm going to try to swim as my exercise at least once a day. I'm going to keep up with what I'm doing and just not stress about it too much. Stress can seem harder to deal with then the actual diet and exercise plan at times!
I really appreciate all you guys *****plied
