PTH

PTH Normal is 14-72. On 11/18/09 mine was 58, normal, on 2/24/11 it was 96, Hyper, and on 6/27/11 it was 5, Hypo. All other labs are normal.
Does anyone know what this means? Has anyone else dealt with it?
Thanks,
Marsha
I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.

PTH has to do with calcium levels too, and while I'm not one of the lab gurus, I will suggest you post your other lab values. Seeing the whole picture will be much more useful.

I'll bet that's a lab error or typo. Get the test redone.

vit D? D3 or D 25 hydroxy is the number I want.

Mine came back at 9 once. NINE? There is no "NINE" in this. LOL The ones before and after were in the 20's, like 22 or 28, so I figured it was a fluke. The D remained steady thru all 3.

CA is good, Albumin is stellar.

PTH levels will vary during the day, peaking at about 2 a.m. Specimens are usually drawn about 8 a.m.  Your doctor may also want to see an ionized calcium.

Nice to see you posting Martha. May PTH has been all over the place too. I plan to get it tested again soon and talk to my doctor about it. Hope all else is going well with you.

 Hi Marsha,
My PTH was tested 3 weeks ago and was high, about 97, but it was done non-fasting because the Dr. said fasting wasn't necessary. When I saw how high it was, I read about how it should be done first thing in the AM and after fasting 10 hrs. I demanded a retest  under those conditions and it was just below 60.
I had been steadily increasing my D and calcium after each above normal PTH result and was glad to see the final result. My D is now 100.
