vitamins and more questions
Yes, the bypass portion is reversible. I had the same questions, so I'll tell you what my doctor told me. If the doctor leaves a longer common channel (depending on how long - obviously too long would be pointless), you have less chance of having health issues 10 years down the road due to malabsorption. But it will still be short enough to cause malabsorption. I asked him what that meant in terms of weight loss for me, he said *maybe* 10lbs difference, maybe it would make no difference at all. For 10 measly pounds, I told him I'd take the slightly longer channel and lose that 10 myself when I get there!
I'd rather have less health problems down the road. (By the way, these "health problems" are all fixable, it's just something I wanted to try to avoid.) Most doctors have a plan they will discuss with you (and should discuss with you) and will most likely welcome your input. It's your body! Good luck to you! I've tried their calcium citrate and it was good but quite sweet. As a new-op I was on my surgeon's preferred program of 12 Vita4Life a day (capsules). When they just weren't cutting it he approved me switching to Vitalady's DS plan and labs have come back awesome ever since. I do prefer capsules over pills but I've not done many chewables. A longer common channel = less malabsorption.
Common channel standards vary and some surgeon actually measure your entire system and take a percentage. Mine is 100cm, which is my surgeon's standard. Some surgeons stick with their standard regardless. I'm thinking they think it's easier for them to manage patients when everyone is basically the same.
Good luck! : )
