DS Friendly Supplements for Macular Degeneration?
Does anyone here have recommendations of dry versions of the supplements recommended for macular degeneration?
I finally felt like I was fully healed from my VSG to DS revision (Jan 23rd) and gotten my groove back, only to be told I have macular degeneration in both eyes and glaucoma in the right eye last week. And, a week or so earlier, I was told I need double spinal surgeries at the end of the month (the surgeon said I was lucky to still be walking or have any use of my hands).
At this point I can barely think straight so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Tricia
Oh no! It sounds so scary and my heart goes out to you. The only supplements I can think of are dry vitamin A (palmitate) concerning eyes but can't think of anything specific beyond Vitalady's recommendations and protein supplements. Please keep us posted.

I am using Vitalady's program and aim for 135-150 gm protein a day. I will be upping the vitamin A & E by 1 additional capsule a day.
After posting this last night, I found a lutein capsule (as opposed to the normal softgel). It is 1 of the main components of the program for macular degeneration. I'm still researching and piecing together the rest.
Thanks for your response.

I thought about Lutein too but wasn't sure enough to recommend it one way or the other. I hope there's a good answer out there.

That is a full plate of problems. Vitamin C and Zinc are supposed to help with that too so you might want to increase the doses for those too.
Are they talking about using lasers on your eyes? I know my Mom had those treatments and it seemed to help.
We're pulling for you. Take on day at a time.

Thanks for your suggestion to increase my vitamin C and zinc; I'll do that.
I haven't heard about laser treatment but I will certainly inquire. I'm trying to arrange a second opinion at UCSF. That's my best chance locally of getting access to any cutting age treatment.
And, thank you so much for your encouragement. I really appreciate it.

I don't know anything about supplementation for macular degeneration, but I just wanted to share that I developed macular holes in both eyes about 2 years after surgery (I have no reason to believe this is related to my surgery in any way) and I have high pressure in my eyes now as well which may be a precursor to glaucoma, so I can relate to your shock. I had surgery on the holes and my vision is mostly restored so that part is good. I hope you get this under control. Wishing you good health.
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to me.
I am glad to hear things have improved for you.
The shock has worn off enough that I was able to get the additional supplements ordered today, which helps me to feel a little more in control.
I really appreciate you sharing your experience and your well wishes.
Thanks so much.

I love their products. Use many of them over the years. Specially for thyroid support.
