OT- stealing from the dead
I got an email that my Mother's prescriptions were ready to be picked up at the pharmacy. There were three of them and I just assumed they had been set up on auto-refill. I was a little bummed by it, (Mama died August 27-) but I called my sister and she asked me to call the pharmacy and tell them my Mother was deceased. So I did just that. Not ten minutes later my sister called me back. The pharmacy had called her, it seems the medications were not on auto-refill, these were refills but they had been CALLED in last Friday. They asked my sister what she wanted them to do if someone came in to pick up the meds. My sister said "call the (insert profanity here) Sheriff."
So now on top of everything else we are dealing with, my sister who has at least temporaily moved into my Mother's house and is trying to get everything sorted out has to be worried that people are stealing our dead Mother's trash and going through her things. She is also super concerned about her and her 10 year old sons safety.
Funny thing is these weren't even good drugs. They weren't her pain medications or anything like that. It makes no sense.

It is bizarre. The pharmacy told my sister they probably had stolen the bottles from the trash. I am still hoping this was all just a mix-up and that these were in fact set up on auto-refill.
She has spoken to all of her neighbors about this and told all of them to call the sheriff if they see anything out of the ordinary.
Hi Red! That's terrible. And disgusting. There are more than a few rotten people in the world.
Did you put an obituary in the paper? That could have been the start of the trouble. People read obituaries/wedding announcements etc to figure out who they need to burglarize next. You and your sister really do need to talk to the sheriff/local police. Don't worry about it; just do it! Please?
Dear Red. I just recently caught up with your news about your mother and then your dog. It made me so sad to know that you've had these difficult times come into your life. I have neglected to send you a private message, but I have thought about you a lot and hoped that you are making your way through the grieving process. It does take time.
This kind of thing with the prescriptions is very distressing. I would be tempted to call the pharmacy and talk to a manager to see if they have procedures in place for dealing with people who might falsify refills. Surely that is their area of expertise and they need not be asking you or your sister what to do! That's criminal for pete's sake!
Meanwhile, I've been wondering, too, if you've been able to make any progress on your efforts to have the WLS. I'd love to hear an update.
Take care,
Starr
Thank you for your kind thoughts, Starr. It has been a very difficult time. I do not think I have slept through the night in weeks. I keep having these dreams -- and they are awful. I know that given time I will be ok.
I have not made much progress toward having the surgery lately. I promise I will post an update on the subject very soon. I am glad to know that your surgery went well.

Thanks Betty. I had tried Google with no luck but I was hoping that that was just a matter of not being proficient in my searching. Thanks for your attempts and response.
I am trying to help a long time neighbor who could use some assistance to make a difficult situation a little bit easier. Although her situation is not WLS related I thought that the assistance I received using a shopping/delivery service while I was recovering alone after WLS would help her with her situation.
Thanks again. I appreaciate the reply.
Carolyn
