Hello Everyone, After being so excited the last two days with my weight loss and doctors' visit, I may have a hernia! The weird thing is where the pain is. I had lap. DS, so why in the world is the incision where I had a C-Section almost 4 years ago starting to hurt like the dickens! I called the Doctors Office and spoke with Dr. Spaw, he said he could see me this afternoon( he really is a sweetie!) However, I'm about 2 hours away from his office and I was Just there on Tuesday. He told me to take it easy the next couple of days, back on weight restrictions of less than 10 pounds. Based on the pain and hard knot on by bikini line incision, Dr. Spaw thinks it could be an incisional hernia. But how it that possible? That scar is 4 years old! I picked up my 3 year son yesterday, this is when the pain started. And yes, the doctor cleared me to exercise and all weight lifting restrictions were lifted. Anybody who can tell me what other sysmptons I should be looking for would be appreciated. Thanks, N

Hi! I can't help you much but I thought I would let you know I have a hernia also and mine is where I had my gall bladder removed in 4-99 the place right above the belly button. I don't know how long I have even had it Dr. Anthone found it Tuesday on my first visit. Mine doesn't hurt thank goodness. He said something like its really common and that he would do something with it when I have my surgery and then repair it for good when I have my tummy tuck after the weightloss.... I hope that makes you feel better and I'm sorry your in pain. Just take it easy and get well soon. Marylin newbie switcher

I hope it isn't a hernia, but even old incisions can cause trouble. Things to look for: increased pain, nausea, vomiting, fever. If any of that happens, call your surgeon. Don't wait. The odd thing about having the DS is that we can still pass gas and have BMs even if there is an obstruction, so not passing gas or BMs isn't a good gauge for us. (Medical folks will ask about that and look at you cross-eyed when you try to explain it.) The hernia demons are surely active lately. We need someone to cast a spell to be rid of them! Jeanie

I tend to be an alarmist, better safe than sorry type. maybe because i dont pay any medical bills, and being an emt get to see the mistakes some people choose. i had a very small umbilical hernia, not even a thimble of size , it died and almost so did i, if it had prgressed another day to gangreen. hernias can be come gangreen, if the avulsed tissue is pinched off from the blood supply and die, this is something to consider if you are having pain, I would suggest that you persue it even if inconvient.

Walter, Thanks for your reply. I will keep a close watch on it and follow Doctors orders. If however, things develop more over the weekend, I'll go to the ER. Thanks again for the warning, I had no idea it could possibly be that dangerous. Take Care, N
