Topic: RE: Fibro meds and weight gain?
I am 8 years post op and over the past two years I have had a lot of trouble. It took almost as long to find out what was causing my severe pain. I have been stuck in the no sleep cycle, weight gain for just as long. I regained 60lbs. I was on so many medications as well as being immoble from a back injury, Finally I started seeing a nuerologist and he said the severe pain was indeed Fibromyalgia. I was take off a couple meds and we added Cymbalta. Within the first three months I am back down 21lbs and walking everyday. For me the "magic pill", if you will was the cymbalta. I agree though it truely was a LONG two years of trial and error with me. I'm so sorry to hear you have the same condition. I think that the meds are trial and error along with a good dr that understands your personal needs. Each person reacts differently to different meds. I hope this was somewhat helpful.
Good Luck,
Julie

Has anyone heard of using suposototies for vitamin D and other vitamins. I had a doc suggest it since my vit D can't seem to take up with using 50,000 units twice a week. What do you guys think? The name of the company is Nutriceutic. I think vthey are based out of New York.

Topic: RE: Do I have fibro?
Something like 60% of women have a D def. It isn't unusual, but it will help you gain SOME energy. One thing you might want to figure out is if you have any other "sensativities". Fibro is a problem with the actual nerves and doesn't only affect pain sensors. I've got a problem with noise sensativity that I didn't realize until an ex pointed it out. Trigger points are easy to figure out. If you press, just one finger, into the spot and pain lingers, it might be a trigger point. Press on a long muscle with the same pressure and compare the pain. My main trigger points are my upper arms where everyone likes to poke you in the shoulder. I also have back of the neck and lower back trigger points. When diagnosed, I had 16 of 18 points of pain.

I am on gabbapentin/neurontin supplamented with high powered pain relief meds when needed. I've not gained weight, but I DO get adema because of the neurontin so my doc has put me on a fluid pill as well. So far, I've not gained any weight with this combo, but, the weather is kicking my butt with the pain.

In some states it is up to 24 months to get an SSI hearing....its a long process. All your Dr's paperwork is needed but most of all....they have to say Fibro. good luck.

I understand how you feel. Just had arthoscoptic surgery on both of my knees. Now my rhumo wants me to get another spinal injection for my discs. Between not feeling good and I'm having anxiety that if disability cuts me off cause my docs hate filling out ppwk. Don't know how I will live. What a crazy world. Hope everyone feels better.

I take 1000 iu of Vitamin E and also a SUPER B complex with C!  I swear by both of these.  I can so tell when i don't take them.  They help with pain, swelling and circulation so i can actually walk!  Try it!  You have to take them for awhile to reap the benefits.

Hope this helps,
Stacey

Dorthe,

Wow, what an informative post. I would suggest us older ladies are all deconditioned. I know my hips and feet bother me if I try to "push" myself to hard that day at the gym.

I will talk to our trainer and ask him for core exercise routines and i'm sure that will help her a lot.
I believe that if she sees the progress she will become more of a self starter. I lead a very busy lifestyle. I travel to see my grandson about every 6 weeks, participate in themed events such as Ren Fairs, Pirate Fests and Celtic Gatherings in the South East and I am currently finishing up my Real Estate Lic requirements.  I love her to death and only want the best for her, but sometimes I feel I am her only means of support. Her family is not very encouraging and sometimes very disrespectful.

Thanks again ladies, you all are so wonderful for sharing your experiences.
