Topic: RE: Fibromyalgia and Parathyroid Hyperactivity
There are 2 types of hyperparathyroidism.

There is primary hyperparathyroidism which is very rare and this is the over production of calcium (calcium level 10.4 or higher) and elevated parathyroid hormone - PTH greater than 65. This type requires treatment by an Endocrinologist who specializes in calcium disorders.  You also need to have either a sonogram or CT scan of your parathyroid glands.

The most common type of Hyperparathyroidism is Secondary hyperparathyroidism and that is the type that most of us have - the great majority of weight loss surgery patients as well as the general population due to vitamin D deficiency.   You will have a low vitamin D level (less than 30), elevated parathyroid hormone = PTH greater than 65. Some people will still have a high calcium level due to leaking calcium from the bones and into the blood.  The treatment for Secondary Hyperparathyroidism is High doses of Dry D3 and increased doses of calcium.  This combination should normalize your levels.  I had this exact problem and now they are normal.

Wow. Serious stuff Marion. Sorry to hear it. I'm 5 days post op now and I have had a migraine everyday since the day of surgery. Thank goodness for Lortab. That has helped. I even slept my first full night's sleep last night. Blessed sleep, no better gift for health. Thanks to all who commented. I'll update if things change. I've got my fingers crossed.

One of the gals here suggested From Fatigued to Fantastic by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, I just got my copy yesterday so haven't had a chance to read it yet but looks like lots of naturopathic treatments in it. I'd suggest you get a copy of that, got mine used on Amazon.com and it was super cheap. You might also look for a naturopathic doc in your area unfortunately most insurance companies don't tend to cover them. Myself I have to take mophine and oxycodone because the few natural things I've tried didn't work real well. I'm going to investigate the things in this book tho and see if the combination will help, also check to see if there is a Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Center near you. Most fibro patients see either a rheumatologist or pain clinic for treatment. I wish you good luck and feel free to ask any question you might have, we have a bunch or very smart people here!

Hello, my name is Pamela and I am from Allentown, PA. Three doctors has told me that I have firo but I thought it was just all in my head about the pain in the flareups. I have tried the medication that is on the market now, but I had very bad complications and side effects to it. It made me feel awful and depressed to the point I was thinking about suicide and that is one of the side effects to it. Does anybody know any natural remedies, I am getting tired of taking medication like Percocet muscle relaxes and shots of cortisone in my back and all the pills make my pouch. Hurt

That's worth trying.  I keep checking the pharmacy to see if that pill cutter or crusher will go on sale, but maybe won't need to if this works.

Yes I agree you need to get it checked out with a doc. the fact that it appeared so fast would alarm me.
Let us know how you are doing.

I had read in one of my magazines that coated the pill with butter would slide it down. BUT I did not want the butter so I am been thinking what to use instead. Well 3 nights ago I choked bad, even choked the pill back up... well my pain pill and my calcuim are the worse, ones. i got a spoon last night and SF pudding I put the pill on the spoonful of pudding and swallowed it with a drink. WOW it slid down and no problem. I cannot believe how the big pills just slid down all these years feeling like there stuck and such a simple solution!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope if any of you have problems with pills you will try this.
