hot showers can help the muscle pain but remember they are for pain control so don't just get clean and leave let the warmth get don to your bones !  A Mid wife told me that the shower can be help pain up to as much as 50 of demoral as it releases the natural endorfins your body makes that love the receptor sites pain medicines do.  Get plenty of sleep as the symptoms ill flare when you are tired.  She a rhumatoligish or find a fibromyalgia clinic for treatment (and they will also run blood test to treat other triggers)
Good luck

Topic: RE: Fibro "fog"
I go to the Fibromyalgiaa and fatugue center in PA, started treatment last month and found I have started to see a difference in everything even the fog we endure.
I have had so much pain over the years but the fibro-fog upsets me more.  I finished my bachlors and Idropped a letter grade in my class averages from when I got my ASSociates because it was harder to think and remember.
I get a word "stuck" and the word that wants to come out of my mouth instead has the same first letter and I know it is not the correct one.  It has even happened when I say my prayers at times.
good luck

Are you on any medication yet for the fibro? That can help alot, I take cymbalta and it's been really helpful. There are lots of meds that can help just depends on which one works for you, we're all different that way. Don't know about work wise cause I've been out of the work force for years. Wish you the best!

Outside of constant pain I'm just great!Unfortunately I'm one who doesn't have flairs, it's just always there. I'm seeing about getting a spinal stimulator to try to lessen my back pain from arthritis. If anybody else has had one I'd appreciate input on how effective it is. I'm praying it helps, if it'll cut the back pain I think I could handle my fibro pain better. Other than that just enjoying our beautiful sunny fall days! Trying to gear up for Christmas but just can't get going yet!

Topic: RE: How bad before retirement or disability?
I was diagnosed over 15 years ago with Fibromyalgia. I used to take Ultram or Ultracet and Naprosyn. Now, I'm taking 1200mg of gabapentin (Neurontin) 3 times a day, Cymbalta and Vicodin 5/500 as needed. I was approved for SS Disability 6 years ago and they took the approval back to 2001. I had been slowly backing off on my work hours, had to change jobs to something less strenuous and finally had to stop working because of pain... And because of drowsiness due to meds. I was approved for SSD without a battle at all. I REALLY documented everything and had very supportive docs. My approval took about 6 months. Good luck to you!

Hey all,

First time that I have come to the Fibromyalgia Forum but not first time in OH.

I had a bad night and this morning I could hardly roll out of bed or walk or get down the stairs.  I have to go see my doc this afternoon as my work now requires a Dr's note for me being away. I've used up all my sick time already and this will end up being leave without pay once again.

I am a single parent and no way can I afford to lose this $$.

My bosses and I have already 'talked' about  my 'situation'.  They had asked if I wanted to go to part time wor****il I feel better. 1.) I cannot afford to only work part time and 2.) I am not going to 'feel' better anytime soon.

Not sure what its like in the states but I would like to look and see what I can do here in Canada about work and such.

Any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!!

Topic: RE: all these meds...and work?
good morning:  i had totally forgotten i'd posted here - it's been a long, long six months.  we are still working on meds - trying to find a dosage that works for me.  allowing less brain fog and pain control at the same time is a challenge.  i'll say again that i hope to be back to work this month.  but i've been thinking that since march and it still hasn't happened.
right now i'm on max dosage of lyrica and cymbalta, along with neurontin, flexeril, and tylenol.  my memory is still iffy but for the most part the pain is controlled.
i think you're right about the afternoon hours.  that's the time i normally find myself napping if at all possible.  i also think you're correct about carbs.  i still avoid sugar for the most part but carbs really do me in.  my energy plummets, too, so i'm working on a healthier version of lunch.
sounds as though you've got a handle on what works for you, as best you can.  wish i could offer some wisdom or help but i have nothing.  guess we'll all struggle 'together'.  take care

Having had fibro since I was a child, I have never had the option not to work.  No matter how much pain I will ever be in, or how much fibro fog I have, I always have to suck it up and trudge to work or end up homeless.  I've managed to make it work but it hasn't been easy.  I take advantage of the somewhat flexible hours my workplace has.  Some days I can barely make the 8 hours and I end up leaving a little shy, while some days I manage to power through and go a full 10-11 hours, which is what I really should be working.  I have also been known to fall asleep in my cube (unintentionally). As long as I don't charge the client for it or start snoring, most people just leave me there.

Definitely take your lunch break every day.  Nap, take a walk, go on a mental vacation, whatever.  Just don't work through lunch as you will burn out by 2pm.  Personally, the hours between 2-4:30 are my worst.  I push my lunch into that window so I spend the least amount of time working during that period.  I perk up around dinner so I try to do most of my work then.  I save my dumbest tasks like opening mail for the time when I'm least likely to have quality thoughts.

I really find that if I have sugar or carbs for lunch my energy plummets in the afternoon.  Steer clear from the evil loop of eating carbs to give you energy to keep you awake, causing more sleepiness.  That one could just be me though.

In the end, it takes me about 50hrs a week to do a 40hr work week.  Yes it sucks rocks but what choice do we have when there are bills to be paid?

Make sure to pay special attention to where you left your car!  I got home one day and as I walked up the driveway after getting off the bus, I looked in my empty driveway and went .  It seems when I left the house I left in my car.  I took the bus home.  Where the hell did I put my car?
